So what did she do wrong with that batter?

:)

batter got lucky, only explanation. If you saw the stream you saw SDSU hitters swing at pitches that were over their heads when it got to back of the plate.  Canady's rise ball was really brutal. She was good last year, but based on that one game, she has improved.
Stanford looked to be in mid season form.  Very impressive.  Time will tell the true tale.

Stanford could only muster 2 hits and fell to Kentucky today 2-1. Stanford gets a rematch with the Wildcats tomorrow.

Stanford hitting was not good against Kentucky in both games.  Based on my expectations Stanford hitting in the first five games is a disappointment.  Three runs is the best Stanford could do against teams outside the top twenty ranking.

That indeed is not good.  I had expected that this year we would be something more than a small ball team. But so far I see a team totally dependent on its pitching staff to stay in the game. I hope that changes.

Stanford in Clearwater Florida tomorrow for a tournament and some of our games or more on ESPNu tomorrow espn 2 it appears for Friday

RE: Stanford Softball 2024 - BobK - 02-15-2024

Stanford up 15-7 this morning vs Georgia Tech. Bottom of 6

RE: Stanford Softball 2024 - d4cohn - 02-15-2024

Stanford with an impressive 15-7 6 inning run rule of Georgia Tech. I think a factor, perhaps made clearer by the GT result, is weather conditions matter with regards to scoring. San Diego last week (my hometown) had terrible storms and flooding, with rain and wind through Friday (2nd day of the tournament). It has also been cold by SD standards. Therefore, ball doesn't travel, leading to lower scoring with all things being equal. This week in Florida, I presume warmer conditions allows the offense to show its full potential.

Aly Ksneshiro 4 for 4 3 HRs 7 RBIs. Stanford hit 6 HRs.
Stanford plays mighty Florida State on tv at 1.

RE: Stanford Softball 2024 - Softball Fan - 02-15-2024

Stanford long ball hitting looked fantastic against unranked Georgia Tech.  Only downside was a few fielding plays by Stanford looked like the bad news bears.   How the bats do today against #5 Florida State should be more enlightening as to how Stanford hitting does against top 10 teams.

I like the the 20 second time limit for pitchers. She has 20 seconds from the time she catches the ball to make the pitch.

RE: Stanford Softball 2024 - BobK - 02-15-2024

Despite the announcers the clock was used post season last year
Stanford getting runners but the Florida State SS with two leaping catches to save probably 4 runs.

RE: Stanford Softball 2024 - M T - 02-15-2024

Ouch.  3 Stanford errors and a passed ball lead to 3 runs in the 5th.

RE: Stanford Softball 2024 - BobK - 02-15-2024

Very bad inning. The only hit went 20 feet
Ugh

It seems like ESPN is all in on televising women's college sports.

NiJaree Canady was superb against #2 Tennessee in a 1-0 Cardinal victory.  The question now becomes who pitches against #3 Texas tonight.  I don't think any Stanford pitcher other than Canady will fare well against Texas.

It was interesting coach had a batter twice try to bunt with players on base and two outs. It's a low percentage play and perhaps an indication the coach is not entirely confident early season in Stanford hitting against good pitching.

I felt bad for the Tennessee pitcher. The umpire wouldn't give her the outside of the plate.

RE: Stanford Softball 2024 - BobK - 02-16-2024

Would love to see Houston pitch but looks like Chung will pitch some which sadly means not hitting
Krause threw 56-59. Canady 73-75!

RE: Stanford Softball 2024 - BobK - 02-17-2024

Well Houston pitched well last night. Minnesota at 10 this morning on espn +

RE: Stanford Softball 2024 - M T - 02-17-2024

This morning’s game is in a rain delay

RE: Stanford Softball 2024 - BobK - 02-17-2024

Or rained out. It’s been 2 hours.

RE: Stanford Softball 2024 - M T - 02-17-2024

After having watched Chung, Krause and Candy, our rotation needs to be Canady, Canady, Canady. Really hope Houston can become a strong alternative Canady. Seems to me that Women's softball pitching has rapidly evolved and if you can't throw hard and have a lot of movement on the ball you are going to get hit. We do have a great catcher.
