Nick Dunlap. I watched the tournament today (and recorded the Bills/Chiefs game for viewing later this evening).

He's also won the U.S. Junior Amateur. Only one other amateur has won both the U. S. Amateur and the U. S. Junior Amateur. I'll bet you can name that individual...

Not sure of this, but I seem to remember hearing something about it recently - so I'm thinking Andruw Jones who has been in the spotlight a bit with the Hall of Fame voting. But I'm also thinking it must be someone from the old days when strike outs were still somewhat of a source of shame.

Ruth hit 50, but he struck out a lot. I think Foxx did too.

All really good guesses. The answer is former Giant and Hall of Famer Johnny Mize, who in 1947 hit 51 home runs and struck out 42 times.

- Willie Mays only struck out 60 times the year he hit 51 home runs (and 71 times the year he hit 52 HRs).
- DiMaggio hit 46 HRs with just 37 strikeouts in 1937 and 39 HRs with just 30 strikeouts in 1948.
- Gehrig came close. He hit 49 HRs with just 31 strikeouts in 1934 and 49 HRs with just 46 strikeouts in 1936.
Bob, Pujols came close in 2006 with 49 HRs and 50 strikeouts.
Skip, Andruw did hit 51 HRs, but he had more of an (ahem) traditional slugger strikeout profile with 11 straight seasons of 100 or more strikeouts.

Another reason not to like the dissolution of the Pac-12. Some great, great baseball teams although I know they were fourth behind the SEC, Big 12 and ACC last year. At least Stanford and Cal will get to play ACC teams and good for ASU, AZ, Utah and Colorado in the Big 12. Big 10 was 11th among NCAA baseball conferences, so Oregon, Washington, USC and UCLA...too bad.

That's correct. And the only other hitter who had more strikeouts than home runs since 1956 was George Brett in 1980 when he hit 24 home runs with 22 strikeouts...that was the year he hit .390.
There have been 45 seasons in which a hitter hit 20 or more HRs and struck out fewer than their number of HRs, including:
