Forbes also noted that before the pandemic, more 16-19 year olds entered the work force; in fact, their unemployment rate decreased to 9.2%, lowest U.R. in 70 years. They anticipate fewer enrollees at community and regional four year colleges thanks to the demographic factors already noted.

Non-selective schools are already closing. One of my neighbors told me that the CSU system is facing consolidation. Her child goes to Sonoma State, one of the schools under pressure. The UC and CSU systems face a $1 billion shortfall in 2025/2026.

Looks like Sonoma State, Cal State East Bay and San Francisco Atate are merging administrative services.

NDNU finds another buyer

it will be interesting to see what the investment arm of Cal does with the property, will it be a satellite campus or something else?

Quote:"In a quick pivot, Notre Dame de Namur University on the San Francisco Peninsula has agreed to sell its 46-acre campus and surrounding property to the investment arm of the University of California, officials said.

The private Catholic university will lease back its Belmont campus for up to five years under the deal, which was announced Tuesday — just months after a similar deal with Stanford University fell through. "

NDNU gets to keep operating it for five years. The campus and additional properties add up to 96 acres. Given the proximity to Silicon Valley, my guess would be a graduate technology center devoted to a variety of cutting-edge technologies.

I used to live in Belmont and rode my mountain bike in the canyon where Water Dog lake is located, I doubt any development would happen on that part of the land as it is a pretty narrow and steep canyon with very limited access from either end of the canyon.  Belmont may or may not be willing to exit the last 40 years they have on the lease (or maybe a new buyer has a option to cancel on a change in ownership)

Quote:UC will also take over ownership of Water Dog Lake, a 50-acre preserve of hiking trails and a stocked fishing lake that is operated as a park by the city of Belmont under a 50-year lease that has 40 years remaining. That arrangement will continue. The preserve, which was not included in the Stanford deal, brings the total property to 96.5 acres.
