The 18 player USA roster was announced today for play at NVL in Italy starting May 25 and lasting for four weeks in a "bubble environment". Plummer is one of six players listed as OH. It will be difficult for her to make the 12 player Olympic roster. Best luck to her. It will make my watching of Olympic volleyball much more interesting if she is on the team.
Foluke is also on the NVL roster and IMO has a good chance of making the Olympic team if she is 100% healthy.

The University of California system has decided to do away with the SAT or ACT permanently. Even if a student voluntarily sends test scores they won't be considered for admissions.
Stanford waived test scores for this year due to Covid but from what I read intends to require scores moving forward. In the WVB recruits I've heard about who were denied admissions it seemed like most often the obstacle was the test score. Granted not many examples because Denise told recruits what they needed to get admitted and if they didn't get the score they wouldn't get into Stanford.
Will there be elite recruits who decide the best course of action is Cal or UCLA and eliminate the hassle of taking the test?

It's not a hassle for the student who is confident of getting the necessary score. I was thinking more along the line of elite prep players who might not be good test takers and are not confident of being admitted.
Speaking of academics I was checking out 2023 potential recruit ipar kurt from Turkey. Her high school in Istanbul is considered academically the best school in Turkey and most of the classes are taught in English. So maybe she is a possibility.

The UC system really had no choice. They had decided to not require standardized tests, but would consider them if submitted voluntarily by the applicants. I think this was for the 2022 and 2023 cohorts. But the lawsuit made it nigh impossible, so the basic effect was to speed up the planned action to eventually disallow the SAT/ACT.
Also, not mentioned by the article: the plan all along for UC has been to come up with its own test, but I have no idea if that's feasible. I won't say any more to avoid the semblance of politicization, except that admissions for athletics--and special action admits in general--will be really complicated until we settle on a new normal for the many schools that are nixing the current standardized tests. I would be really curious to see how Stanford handles admissions for athletes in the near future. Will AP test scores become the new admissions tests, at least in part? I have no idea, but I wish I could talk to someone who does.

Regardless of whether UC looks at standardized tests, doesn't the NCAA mandate a minimum score?

So, prospective student athletes will presumably still have to take the test, even if they commit to a school that won't look at it.

The 2021 and 2022 matriculating cohorts had the standardized test requirement waived. The requirement itself is under review, and I would be really surprised if it returned in 2023 (but then again, we are talking about the NCAA):

Volleyball players are ordinarily so strong academically that this admissions requirement rarely trips up recruits who want to come to The Farm. It may impact other sports but generally doesn't touch volleyball. That doesn't mean that it occasionally prevent a student from pursuing admission. I know of a recent example who was just named Second Team A-A while playing at Oregon.

They told my kid he needed a 28 or 29 on the ACT to be admitted. His GPA was well over 4.0 weighted and 3.97 unweighted. I told him after his sophomore year to take the summer to study for the test like his life depended on it. During baseball travel tournaments, he'd take full tests in the morning while his buddies played golf or slept in. He was so determined that the test he'd take in the fall of his junior year would be the only time he'd have to take it.
He ended up scoring 34 the Saturday after a September football game, despite being completely gassed. The hard work paid off for him. It might have paid off for her too. The problem was she was worried that it might not and that her other offers would be gone. So she went to Oregon instead. She's doing great academically, met a nice baseball catcher and thrived on the court. I'd say she did just fine!

Great story baseballjunkie. I assume your son is or was on the Stanford baseball team.
If the vb player you are talking about is the one I know about, she tried twice to get the score Denise said she needed. Fell short both times and kinda gave up her dream about being at Stanford. Things worked out well for her. She is a superstar in PAC-12 volleyball.

Enjoyed the zoom banquet last night. Confirmed never a scrimmage as never enough players
Campbell and L Smith are recovering.
Hambly gave a great speech on the first practices. On the tennis courts on the rugby field and nothing worked. Plus remember only two players could touch the ball
Appreciate that all the Players plus Glass-Childress participated

Thanks for the zoom report. I hope Campbell and L. Smith are on track to be 100% some time in July. Both are potential starters.
I haven't heard anything about Lougeay. I don't know what her injury was. I'm more concerned about finding a reliable DS than any other position.
Not having team scrimmages was a killer to team improvement. I hope Stanford WVB never has to go through this kind of season again.

Outside hitter Kathryn Plummer, making her VNL debut, led the U.S. scoring on Tuesday with a match-high 16 points on 14 kills and two blocks.
The VNL games over the next four weeks will decide which players make the final 12 player Olympic roster. Plummer is out to a fairly good start.

Plummer played the entire match again today in a 3-0 sweep of Canada. Of the 46 serves, 34 of them were received by Plummer. That will probably be typical for the matches Plummer plays.
This may all be for naught. Several major Japanese newspapers recently urged their government to cancel the Olympic games. The majority of Japanese citizens do not want them this year according to the polls. They consider it dangerous to fly in people from all over the world while Covid is already surging in Japan.

Looks like a really good class coming in. Hopefully this class and the players returning will fill out the roster and allow the talent to show. Looking forward to seeing the team progress as a full team in a full season. (Fingers crossed, wood knocked on.)
