McNealy (-4) T24. Rodgers (-2) made the cut by a stroke, T52.

Thorbjornsen (-1) missed the cut by a stroke, as did Salinda (+1).

Joseph Bramlett (-6) is T36 at the Club Car championship on the KFI tour.

Maverick McNealy (-5) finished tied for third at the Valero Texas Open at TPC San Antonio. He'll take around $560k, not a bad payout.

I would like to see him win again, but consider his official winnings since 2017 are around 15,000,000 he isn't going broke unless he does something really stupid with his money. Bottom line is that if you are a good golfer you can do well on the tour even if you seldom win.

Incidentally, Patrick Rodgers is #27 and Isaiah Salinda is #52, Michael Thorbjornsen is #113 (right after Phil Mickelson). Tiger is #125, Brandon Wu is #127

After two rounds at the Masters, McNealy (+1) made the cut by a stroke and is T37. All five amateurs missed the cut, as did many big names. Nick Dunlap improved from 90 to 71 (still finished last).

Justin Rose (-8) in the lead, DeChambeau (-7), McIlroy and Corey Conners (-6) round out the first four. McCarty, Lowry, Scheffler and Hatton (-5) bunched in fifth place.

Missing the cut were:
- Dustin Johnson (2020 Masters champ)
- Russell Henley (four Top 10s and a victory in the Arnold Palmer)
- Bernhard Langer (2x Masters winner was fine through 14, then had a double bogey on 15, bogey on 18)
- Phil Mickelson (2010 Masters Champ)
- Sergio Garcia (2017 Masters Champ, playing well on LIV tour)
- Brooks Koepka (Last major win was 2023 PGA, just one Top-20 finish since then, 8 on 18).
- Sepp Straka (six birdies on Friday in first 16 holes and first missed cut at a Masters in his career).
- Cameron Smith (four Top 10 in the last five Masters, including T2 in 2020)
- Will Zalatoris (Hadn't finished worse than T9 in three prior Masters).

Maverick McNealy (+1) finished T32, 12 strokes behind Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose. McNealy was quite consistent, his four rounds were 72-73-71-73.

McIlroy won the Masters in a playoff, giving him the career Grand Slam. He won the US Open in 2011, the British Open in 2012, and the British Open and PGA Championship in 2014. Eleven years later, he won the Masters, joining Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods as career Grand Slam winners.

McNealy has done great this year with four Top 10 finishes. He's 14th in current FedEx points, 51st in the Fall 2024 FedEx points and is 10th in world golf rating.

Back to the current Stanford men's team. A very young team of 3 frosh, a soph and a junior. Maybe they are jelling at the right time.

Stanford finally put together a strong round in the final round of the Goodwin at Stanford GC two weeks ago. Their 273 was the best team score of the season.

They followed up that one day effort with a strong 3 days at the Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo. Stanford finished 2nd, best result of the season. 3 players finished in the top 12. Stanford likely won't make any noise at NCAAs. But with a decent result at ACCs they at least should qualify for regionals.

Stanford is seeded 9th of 15 schools at the ACC Championships, Cal is seeded 12th. Order of seeding is:

FSU, UNC, VA, Duke, L'Ville, GaTech, SMU, ND, Stanford, WF, Clemson, Cal, NC St, BC, VaTech.

Championship starts tomorrow, tee times from 9:00 - 11:34, central time. Course is The Club at Olde Stone, Bowling Green, KY. 2nd and 3rd rounds on Fri and Sat, also starting at 7 a.m. Pacific time. Stroke play for the first three rounds, match play for the quarter finals on Sunday. UNC beat FSU 3-1 in the match play final in 2024.

2025 ACC Men's Golf Championship Notes (PDF) - Atlantic Coast Conference

Stanford's individual golfers are ranked in the ACC's Top 50: Chantananuwat (14), Wang (15), Leng (18). No others are ranked.

I thought Stanford finished strong with a 2nd place overall (of 14) at Pasatiempo's Western Invitational.

Also starting tomorrow is the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Stanford alums Michael Thorbjornsen and Karl Vilips are in the same twosome teeing off at 5:39 PT, Isaiah Salinda tees off at 6:57 a.m., and Joseph Bramlett tees off at 5 a.m.

I think Stanford's goal is modest - finish in the top 8, qualify for match play. That will ensure that Stanford finishes with an overall winning record for the season and be eligible for post-season play.

The men's golf team is the #7 seed in the Amherst, VA regional to be played May 12-14. The top seeds in the region are LSU, Oklahoma, Vandy and Pepperdine. The top 5 teams in each region advance to the NCAA championships at La Costa, near San Diego.

I have to admit that I am surprised they got the nod - they have been mediocre with the exception of their 2nd place at the Western Intercollegiate a few weeks ago.

There are nearly 300 D1 men's golf teams. About 25% of them make the regionals. Stanford's overall record defines mediocrity - 74-73-5. However Stanford is 42nd in the country, primarily because they have played tough competition in their tournaments. Stanford will have to play better and more consistently than they have all season to make any noise at regionals.

There's some Western teams in the Men's Intercollegiate Golf Ranking (rankings performed by coaches).

Western teams in the Top 25 rankings include Arizona State (5), UCLA (13), Utah (14), San Diego State (18), Arizona (20), Pepperdine (23) and Long Beach State (24). Other western teams receiving votes include BYU (33), Colorado (5), UNLV (3), Oregon (1), Pacific (1) and Santa Clara (1).

I was surprised to see how poorly the Men's team performed in the ACC championship, particularly after such a good recruiting year. Being young does not seem to cause the Stanford Women's team any issues, I would have thought the Men's team would have performed better.

Although McNealy sits 8th in the current Ryder Cup standings, unless he wins a big event in the next couple months, McNealy will not be an auto-qualifier, which stop at the top 6. He is pretty far back from #6. Heck, he'd have to jump over Ben Griffin (#7) who has two wins and a runner-up this year and isn't even in the top 6. McNealy's name would go into the Keegan Bradley's hat as a potential captain's pick to fill out the team to it's full complement of 12 players.

Bigger picture, it's go time for Thorbjornsen (#101) and Bramlett (#137) if they want to keep their PGA cards. It's tougher this year, as the cut-off is now Top 100. Bramlett especially needs to play well as he has conditional status and doesn't get into every tournament, so needs to produce some consistent top 20 results when he tees it up. He, Vilips, Rodgers and Salinda are in the Canadian Open field this weekend.
