RE: WBB: Other teams - CompSci87 - 03-17-2025

Yes, thanks for checking out the podcast to find out what Cam was really saying. Even from what was in the article I had a strong sense her remarks were being misquoted or misunderstood.

RE: WBB: Other teams - CompSci87 - 03-18-2025

The Athletic has a much better story, one that understands what Cam was complaining about and leads off with it.

Not sure if others are watching the UConn USC game tonight - did you catch that Sarah Strong's (#1 recruit last yr) mom is Allison Feaster? Maybe Harvard shouldn't have been a 16-seed after all. Just saying.

RE: WBB: Other teams - PVTree - 03-31-2025

Kiki ending her collegiate career with 2 below par performances. Juju's injury derailed her chance at being a national champion.

Agnes played very well for TCU (rebound beast), but it wasn't enough to beat Texas.

Out of the remaining teams, I have to go with SoCar, Texas, Yukon, and Traitorville as the least appealing.

*Yes, I will always consider Betts a traitor, and the initiator of our (temporary?) downfall. IMO, she stays, Kiki stays, we get Sienna, and we roll along with the other elites this year.*

RE: WBB: Other teams - Card10Fan - 03-31-2025

Agreed that it was a disapproving end to Iriafen’s career. She only shot 3/15 and was 0/11 in the second half. Not sad to see USC lose though.

Looking to the Final 4, picking SC and UConn to advance to the Championship. Does UConn have anyone who can match up with Betts? On the flipside, UConn has excellent guard play and who can stop Paige Buekers right now?

I can’t cheer for UCLA. They have too many of our former recruiting targets on their team plus former Pc 12 foe. No thanks. I’m guessing Friday will provide two excellent games.

Wasn’t Agnes the first domino to fall? She was the heir apparent to Anna Wilson as defensive stopper; her transfer seemed to open the floodgates of losing players who would’ve filled key roles.

RE: WBB: Other teams - BobK - 04-01-2025

Agnes graduated in three years. It’s hard to get into Stanford grad schools.
Not a domino

Thanks, BobK, for the clarification. So she must’ve had a COVID year to play two years at TCU. Glad she got to experience (and contribute to) a deep run.

Oh, and here I thought she had left because she didn't think she was playing enough.
I mean even if they graduate after three years and we want them to stick around for their last year of eligibility we can get it done, right? Couldn't we have done it for Kiki if she didn't want to go play for the Condoms?

RE: WBB: Other teams - BobK - 04-01-2025

On TOS we know about some football players leaving with eligibility after graduating who couldn’t get into either grad school or the grad school of their choice
Mbb DaSilva being another

RE: WBB: Other teams - Card10Fan - 04-04-2025

Obviously UConn is incredibly talented with a Big 3 of Bueckers, Fudd, and Strong. But the style and way they play is fun as hell to watch. Pace is so fast, great cutting, moment, the offensive is so crisp. They turn teams over.  We should strive to emulate a lot of these concepts in our own style of play.

A very anticlimactic ending to UCLAs great season. An embarrassing performance on the biggest stage. UCLA was outmatched from the start. Bueckers even had a very average game. Betts in tears on the bench. If you compare roster to roster, UCLA probably has just as much talent as UConn but you’d never know that watching the game.

RE: WBB: Other teams - PVTree - 04-04-2025

Yay! Glad that UCLA has been eliminated. Didn't want certain players on their roster to win a championship. So much so that I hoped that Yukon, a team I celebrate when they lose, to destroy the Ruins.

They pummeled Betts, Rice and company easily. They only lose Dugalic (get little Betts) so they will be one of the favorites next year barring transfer outs.

It's back to hoping Yukon loses meaning that I will root for SCar to win yet another championship.

Embarrassing loss for UCLA which was the #1 overall seed.   Even though I hate UConn, I’m not mad at the outcome because I’m not rooting for players who left our program.

I have it taped - I may watch a little. Another crazy box score. Betts had 26 points and the rest of UCLA 25.  I don’t love some of her recent comments since leaving - ok it didn’t work, fine but let it go. That said, it looks like she was the only positive thing in the game for UCLA.

UCLA with 12 more turnovers and 5 fewer rebounds = 8 fewer shots and 9 fewer free throws.
————————————
Watched a half. She still looks a lot like she did with us, but with much more plying time. Good hands. Good footwork for her size though not very quick or explosive. Probably a better passer from the post now. Better patience in the post on offense maybe? But it’s a layup or nothing, and only 5 rebounds. It will be interesting to see how well she can translate it to the WNBA eventually against say a Jonquel Jones.

You see the Stanford fit issue clearly though. Tara would have had to design the entire offense around her exclusively parked in the low post; and with Cam and Kiki, that wasn’t how we played. Nor should it have been. If she had stayed, she might have gotten that redesign yr 2 or 3, but obviously she wasn’t happy.

RE: WBB: Other teams - HalloHaleakala - 04-05-2025

Should be a great final. Feels like Bueckers won't be denied, but...their opponent. Immovable, irresistible, something something.

Although I confess I was kind of pulling for the Bruins to win it all, if only for the reason that it would hang over the Spoiled Children's heads for a whole year. That'd be fun to see.

RE: WBB: Other teams - jonnyss - 04-05-2025

yes, the uconn offense was fun to watch, especially on fast breaks. bueckers and fudd graduate, but sarah strong is already excellent and will be only a rising sophomore.

but it's the uconn defense that was dominant. rapid, unpredictable switching from player-to-player to zone. doubling betts down low, then anticipating her pass to the wing and racing out before ucla could get off a 3. ucla had almost no open shots, and they couldn't hit the few they had. neither jones nor rice could get free. jones in particular looked useless on offense. gardiner and dugalic threw up wild shots before getting set. so many air balls! frankly, ucla looked like us this year against good teams.

RE: WBB: Other teams - JohnR34231 - 04-05-2025

Yeah, hard to believe that this was the same UCLA team that took South Carolina to the woodshed earlier in the year, leading by 20 at the end of three quarters and winning by 15.
Saw that game and they really looked dominant.

Agree with you on uconn's defense, but they generally have excellent defenses especially at this time of year.  Their offense ran, ran and ran, they ran ucla into the hardood.  uconn's coaching was outstanding, ucla coaching was seemed totally unprepared and failed to make any adjustments. ucla can recruit players, but it seems over the years the player development and the team play has lagged behind the talent level assembled.

Yeah that's a common criticism of Cori. She is a great recruiter but a not so great game day coach. Well, I think she did pretty well this year until she went up against the Old Fox. Certainly did well against Dawn and figured out how to beat Juju & Co, after two losses.

Fudd has stated that she's returning to Yukon next year.
