Gage is a lock at WR.  Watkins will start the year on the IL.  Robinson is off the PUP list.  He played v. Las Vegas. He is definitely on the bubble.

You're right about that.

FB: Juszczyk (1)  Check

WR: Pearsall, Jennings, Robinson, Cowing, Watkins, Gage Gage, Moore (6 5- Aiyuk on PUP list, Robinson suspended to open the season) More ridiculous injuries to more skill players. Don't know how or why this keeps happening to the 49ers. Cowing will miss a few weeks, Robinson suspended for first three weeks.

TE: Kittle, Farrell, Dwelley  Tonges, Willis   (3 - outside chance for Tonges and WillisI think both Tonges  and Willis make it given the number of double-tight end sets the 49ers will be forced to run, coupled with RB injuries.

OL: Williams, Puni, McKivitz, Brendel, Bartch, Burford, Zakelj, Pleasants, Colby Hennessy (9) Check. Might have left Zakely off, but I think they need the depth if Puni has to miss 1-2 weeks.

DL: Bosa, Williams, Huff, Okuayinonu, Gross-Matos, Collins, West, Anderson, Givens, Valdez, Elliott, Davis Beal (9, Givens on IR, Gross-Matos on PUP and maybe Elliott). Beal on, Davis off, Givens to IR, back to nine.

LB: Warner, Winters, Martin, Gifford, Bethune, Robinson Surratt (5 and hopefully Stanford alum Curtis Robinson who is on PUP list from ACL. I think this will happen)

CB: Lenoir, Green, Stout, Brown, Flowers, Lucas, Neal (5, maybe Luter or Neal. Robinson had a broken forearm in the last game)

S: Brown, Pinnock, Sigle, Neal Grant  Grant (4, Mustapha on PUP list. Mahoney looking good)

ST: LS Weeks, P Morstead, K Moody (3 - Greg Joseph in deadlock with Moody)

I wouldn't be surprised if they got rid of Moody. Great week 2, horrendous week three with a missed XP and kicked the ball out of bounds on a kickoff.

Here's the Final 409er Roster with Sports Illustrated position group grade:

QBs (A-): Purdy, Jones
RBs (B+): McCaffrey, Robinson, Guerendo, James
FB: Juszczyk
WR (B-): Pearsall, Cowing, Jennings, Watkins, Moore
TE (B-): Kittle, Farrell, Tonges

S (C+): Brown, Grant, Pinnock, Sigle
CB (B): Green, Lucas, Luter, Stout
DB: Lenoir, Neal
K (D): Moody
P: They released Morstead but plan to re-sign him in the next few days.

Tough grading.

B- for TE when Kittle is top 3 in the league?. It's not a deep group, but I'd much rather have an A+ TE1 and replacement level backups then "depth"

Ditto for RB. Cmac and Robsinson is an elite top 2, mostly becuase Cmac is elite.

RE: 2025 49ers - Giants - 08-26-2025

A list that is guaranteed to change.

Cowing and Watkins are injured and Jennings is a “definite maybe”. The WR group is as thin as Twiggy. I would guess they bring back Gage and sign someone who was cut by another team. Of course, I’ve been more wrong than right to this point……..

RE: 2025 49ers - old spanish trail - 08-26-2025

Hope they find room for Robinson. Maybe stash him on the Practice squad (is he still eligible?) and bring him in out of the cold in as needed.

Wonder if that takes into account Cmac’s injury history.  You can’t be elite if you are on IR.

They're allowed to have up to 17. Drake Nugent, former Stanford/Michigan center is on the squad. Here's the list, and the likelihood of getting promoted to the big squad (according to Sports Illustrated).
Ranking 49ers practice squad players most likely to get called up

their schedule should help, opponents winning percentage last year was 0.415, lowest in the NFL.  They also won't face any of the top NFL QBs during the regular season.

We’re not in … the bottom 10 in NFL QBs.  At least, according to The Athletic.

RE: 2025 49ers - Mick - 09-15-2025

49ers beat the Saints, 26-21. Mac Jones had a nice game, 26/39 for 279 yards and 3 TDs, no INTs. Three sacks.

Interesting trivia #1 about the 49ers. They traded or released half their starters from last year, including Deebo Samuel, Dre Greenaw, Talanoa Hufanga, Charvarius Ward and Kyle Juszcyk (they got him back), Aaron Banks, Maliek Collins, Leonard Floyd. Other teams spent $321 million on 49er free agents, most in NFL history. The 49ers only spent $37 million, which makes for a $284 million free agent deficit, the largest in NFL history by over $80 million.

Interesting trivia #2 about the 49ers. Brock Purdy and Mac Jones started at quarterback in two consecutive road wins to start the season. Two different starting quarterbacks in two consecutive road wins to open the season hasn't happened in the NFL in 37 years...when Joe Montana and Steve Young did it in 1988, winning at the Saints (Montana start) and the New York Giants (Young start).

Looks like the Colts and the Giants could be real problems this year.

RE: 2025 49ers - Mick - 09-20-2025

Fun fact: In the Super Bowl era, the 49ers have started out 2-0 with two road wins just six times:

- Four times, they went to the Super Bowl.
- Once, they went to the NFC championship game.
- The other time was the first time they went 2-0 with two road wins (over division opponents Saints and Falcons). That was the first instance in 1974, one year after Brodie retired. Four out of five quarterbacks on the roster started games that season en route to a 6-8 finish. Can you name any of the five quarterbacks on the roster?

Steve Spurrier

Spurrier was one of the five, and interestingly, the only one of the five not to start a game. Flash back your memories to these illustrious names:

- Tom Owen (22, 13th round, Wichita State), started seven games, went 4-3
- Joe Reed, (26, 11th round, Butler and Mississippi State), started four games, went 2-2
- Dennis Morrison, (23, 14th round, Kansas State), started two games, went 0-2
- Norm Snead (35, 5th round/Redskins, Wake Forest), started one game, 0-1. Snead was interesting, a 16 year NFL career, and he had two winning seasons (2-0 for Minnesota in 1971, 8-5 for the Giants in 1972).
- Steve Spurrier, (29, 1st round/#3 overall pick by 49ers, Florida). Went 1/3, got into three games. Like Snead, had a 10 year NFL career with one winning season (6-2-1, SF, 1972)

By comparison, Steve DeBerg had four winning records out of 17 NFL seasons.
