A few comments on Stanford's 49-year NCAA championship streak --

The streak began in 1976-77. Stanford won the men's water polo title in December 1976, defeating UCLA. Chris Dorst was the Most Outstanding Player. Stanford then added the men's tennis title in May 1977, defeating Trinity. Matt Mitchell won the singles title.

The numbers of championships Stanford won in each of the previous 48 years of the streak are as follows (not including this year's final results, which are still pending):

6 championships -- 2 times
5 championships -- 3 times
4 championships -- 7 times
3 championships -- 7 times
2 championships -- 18 times
1 championship -- 11 times

Stanford has entered the spring season without any championships 13 times during the streak (including this year). Stanford extended the streak all 13 times. In those years, Stanford won 3 spring championships once, won 2 spring championships three times, and won a single spring championship 8 times (with this year's results pending). 

In the 8 previous years in which a single spring championship extended the streak, the spring sports that rescued the streak were women's tennis (5 times), men's tennis (2 times), and women's water polo (once, possibly twice depending on what happens this year).

In 3 other years, Stanford extended the streak by winning just one championship, with that championship coming in fall or winter -- one in men's water polo, one in women's cross-country, and one in men's swimming.

Based on https://gostanford.com/home-of-champions, I count 2020, 2008, 1979 as the only calendar years without a NCAA team title.

NCAA women's rowing championship runs Friday to Sunday. Stanford has the #1 seeded boat in each of the 3 classifications. Stanford is also the only school with a top 3 seed in all 3 classifications.

The women stormed through their first ACC Championships appearance winning every event and earning the conference's automatic qualifier bid as well as the top seed in all three NCAA events coming into the national championship.  Fingers crossed, but they are looking very, very strong.

The men (non-NCAA) have a top-ten ranked varsity eight, which would represent the highest finish since the 2021 season.  The second varsity looks the strongest they've been in years as well, and in a show of depth, they are contesting the varsity four event as well.

Both regattas are taking place within about 50 min of each other in New Jersey this weekend, where the weather promises to be wet on various days of racing.

The women's team is putting down some pretty impressive work, especially from the V4. A good four is an indicator of quality depth. So far so good...

The men's team is on schedule so far, with both eights guaranteed at least a top-twelve finish.  The 1V has a shot at top-six finish if they can fulfill their potential (some injuries a few weeks back have hopefully been overcome).  The 2V had the slowest qualifying time across heats, but 12th is still a good finish trending upward over the last couple of years iirc.

Due to weather forecasts later today, the NCAA moved up all the D1 upper-level semifinals to 7:20am ET this morning.  Both Stanford eights won their semifinals to advance to their respective A Finals, and the four took second place (top three advance) behind Texas by ~2.5 seconds.  Only four teams advanced all their boats to the A Finals: Stanford, Texas, Yale, and Washington.
