Andrew the one MBer looked really good
More this afternoon

RE: 2025 Women’s Volleyball - BobK - 08-15-2025

17 players Tusher the beach player and now 3rd setter said recruited by Hambly in January so no surprise 6-2. Tusher needed to set the team team that practices against the first team with its 6-2

No word on charter flights.

The new well still new president has been super helpful cost wise said Hambly

Sayer will be the MB with Andrew

Andrew may have been the best player last night

Many players were here in July for the camps

How does everyone feel about Stanford’s preseason ranking? Will be a great test next weekend with Florida and Nebraska to see where we stand early on. Looking forward to a new season of Stanford volleyball!

RE: 2025 Women’s Volleyball - paloalto - 08-16-2025

Stanford will get clobbered by Nebraska this first weekend of the season, particularly if Rubin can't play.  She wasn't at the open scrimmage; possible injury?

RE: 2025 Women’s Volleyball - BobK - 08-16-2025

Btw playing international rules in Nebraska
Starting the season with three Frosh in the lineup against top teams is going to be a learning experience. However we do have excellent talent

What are the international rules compared to NCAA?

What’s the status of Rubin? I didn’t know she was nursing an injury. I still think we can beat Florida without her. Nebraska will be a tough task.

If they're using  the full complement of FIVB rules (which I find hard to believe) the main difference is the number of substitutions.  FIVB only allows 6 subs.  NCAA allows 15 subs.   While I haven't kept up with the rules in recent years, there are quite a number of less substantial differences; i.e. FIVB libero can't serve; NCAA libero can serve; FIVB up official can call his own video review challenge while NCAA can't.

There are those who advocate for universal, worldwide rules for the sport.  There are those who advocate in favor of NCAA/USAV rules on substitutions to provide more opportunities for short players.

RE: 2025 Women’s Volleyball - johnbar - 08-17-2025

I had trouble hearing in the gym, but I believe that Hambly was asked whether the international rules applied to subs, and they do not.

The one other rule I recall being different is the "pursuit" rule:  under international rules, a player is allowed to pursue a ball outside the net past the midline. I think the NCAA banned this, for fear of dangerous collisions with tables and other obstacles.

RE: 2025 Women’s Volleyball - BobK - 08-17-2025

I believe you are correct John. Subs are college rules. Yes it was hard to hear

On that rule, the NCAA version seems like a good idea to me.

I wonder what the point is of using the international rules except for number of subs in this match.

Good question.  I hope the match commentators provide some answers.

RE: 2025 Women’s Volleyball - Jamesy - 08-17-2025

So the only significant change is the libero won't serve? Seems stranger that we can arbitrarily use a different set of rules for an ncaa match that is not an exhibition. Oh well.

RE: 2025 Women’s Volleyball - BobK - 08-18-2025

I didn’t say here but two recruits in the 2026 class will enroll in January

Video of Stanford practicing in the Nebraska venue.  It looks like Rubin is ok to play or at least to practice based on the video.

Thx I thought it was her

RE: 2025 Women’s Volleyball - paloalto - 08-21-2025

Here is a post from another message board about tomorrow's opponent to open the season. Two of those injured players were probable starters.

Of the 17 players on Florida's roster, only 13 are currently eligible to play due to injuries sidelining Gravlee, Hoyle, McMillian, and Thomas. Of those 13, just seven have prior experience playing in a collegiate match.
