RE: WBIT - martyup - 03-19-2026

We are being outscored in the 3rd Q 9-14.  At this pace, we lose this game.

We are 4-6 from beyond the arc.

We give up a 9-0 scoring run and the lead is 40-30 at the half.

We suck at breaking the press.

_______ our sound on ESPN is terrible.  We have it on 40 to hear the female and it is almost impossible to make out what the male is saying______

Sadly, an increasingly popular strategy in women’s basketball

Fair, but then we need to adapt. We almost never screen to provide pathways to the basket, which means we're almost never going in for a layup that can draw a foul. Swain is often doing so but usually with a head of steam and she's sometimes as likely to draw a charge as get a call.

RE: WBIT - TonyLima - 03-19-2026

Zebras determined to give this one to LMU.

RE: WBIT - martyup - 03-19-2026

We give them 21 points in the 3rd Q and our once 19 point lead is cut to 2 at the start of the 4th.  Last game?

Shooting almost 60% as a team and still likely to lose this game. Wild.

I feel like I've seen this as the explanation in almost every other game thread. At a certain point we need to adapt to the way they're calling the game.

From the paid Stanford board and Ben Parker.

"Ok, so here's the lowdown on Lara Somfai. I did a little sleuthing:
She definitely won't be back for the WBIT. She went back to Hungary after the ACC tourney. Sounds like whether or not she's back next year with the program is up-in-the-air. Other schools have been talking to her representation. Serious NIL money. Like $1M kinda money. The source who relayed this info to me also feels like it's Stanford's to lose. So, there's certainly a chance she's back. But given that she's away from the team under these circumstances, we shouldn't at all be surprised if she isn't."

I thought it was an NCAA rules violation to talk to a player or their agent unless they are in the transfer portal.

In this landscape, I don't think any rules such as that are being enforced.

No, this has been going on for years. Programs were trying to poach Cam Brink after her junior season among others. Makes me wonder what programs are that sleazy. Probably USC and UCLA.

RE: WBIT - martyup - 03-19-2026

We finally started beating the press and we lead the 4th Q 15-8 with 2:25 to play.

That post didn't age well.

RE: WBIT - Treebound - 03-19-2026

We are HORRIBLE at inbounding the ball!  Who wants this game?!

Multiple fouls on three point plays....that's coaching....argh!!!  This last inbound will be interesting.  Come on and coach, coach!

RE: WBIT - Hieronymus - 03-19-2026

Hey, we finally beat a team after giving up 70+ in regulation. Would be nice if we stopped fouling 3 point shooters at the end of the game though.

Quote of the game at the end - “going for the tie to get down by 1!” Sigh. Not exactly the A string announcing team

Maybe she was expecting another shooting foul. =(

I wish I could say you are wrong but - yeah that is a fair point.

RE: WBIT - martyup - 03-19-2026

What an ugly win.  We should expect to get pressed on every possession in the following games.

That was agonizing. Without Lara we don't have enuf ball handlers. I assume we should beat Quinnipiac, but we only used 6 players. MLS was in for a few inconsequential minutes. We have no bench, period. Nunu may have been saving herself for the 4th qtr, and, in hindsight, I'm glad she did. The refs let them play, and that disadvantaged us because our 6 players couldn't afford to get in foul trouble. Sorry, but that's on us.

Lara is a fine player, but I don't see her ball-handling as one of her strong points. Without her, we really only have 7 players counting MLS.

But what do you mean "that's on us?" Without Lara, we only have 7 players that play regularly and I agree with the coach's decision...the rest of them aren't really ready to play at this level. The only two that I would add would be Ezike and Amborn - none of whom are ball handlers.

LMU was a pretty frantic pressing team - more so than Tennessee and Duke - but not a quick as them, fortunately. They were trapping us in the front-court...double and triple-teaming at times and we finally started to be able to handle it in the fourth quarter. But we do not have a large group of great ball handling guards on this time and that has cost us more this season than any lack of size.

RE: WBIT - BostonCard - 03-20-2026

We really could have used Lepolo, who, for all her faults, is pretty steady against the press.
