Obviously not from a "neutral" source but if Cincinnati really did explicitly know this gambling was going on they do indeed have a lot to explain. It does seem bizarre to me that they would file a lawsuit to get 1 million back from Sorsby if they indeed did knowingly allow him to gamble and then play him anyway. They should have just been quiet and said "no comment" when asked anything about Sorsby if they did in fact know. It may be that the phone app is a fig leaf for plausible deniability. Obviously since the players know their phone will rat them out if they use it to gamble, they simply do it via intermediaries. The school can claim they did "all they could" when they definitely didn't.

Correct. Only players who are not eligible for CFB can enter the supplemental draft so by definition he cannot return to college football if not drafted.
Sorsby’s attorney indicated that he will take the necessary legal action to permit him to become eligible for the NFL draft thus ending his college career.

The NFL CBA includes a guarantee for all players selected in the NFL Draft. For example, a player drafted in the middle of the third round receives a bonus of approximately $1.5M.
However, for the purpose of calculating monies against the salary cap, all bonuses regardless how much they total, are spread over the length of the contract. Therefore, a $100,000 bonus (for a low round draft choice) on a five year contract would result in $80,000 in dead money if the player is released after year one. As you noted, beyond the bonus, a player’s annual salary is not guaranteed beyond the first season in most rookie contracts.
I’m predicting Round 3 to the Steelers. That gives him a chance to “redshirt” his first year behind Rodgers.

Everyone wants the next Josh Allen. No one cares for the next Mitch Trubisky, Jamarcus Russell, Vince Young, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance...but of course, no one wants to bet on the Brock Purdys of the world either.

The decision was a pleasant surprise. I thought it was a done deal. Way to go, NFL. Perhaps now the kid will realize that actions have consequences and taking responsibility for those actions and accepting the consequences is part of growing up.

It's not a given that the NFL will even have a supplemental draft in any given year, so Sorsby was really rolling the dice. But to treat the NFL as a second fiddle option after having consequences handed down from option #1 was disrespectful anyway...
