Breaking news in the Bay Area - Aldon Smith, the 49ers sack machine, was pulled over in San Jose this morning. Reports say he was DUI with weed and pills in the car. You may have heard Harbaugh's scream all the way on the East Coast when he heard this news.
No word on suspensions yet but this is Smith's second offense. Keeping Andrew Luck healthy and upright on Sunday MAY have just gotten easier.

Harbs is going to have to start hiring people to police his players' lives...but hey, Andrew Luck's jersey is going to be that much cleaner.

49ers & JH vs Colts & Luck
First, Luck succeeding in the NFL helps Stanford over the long haul more than JH winning at the 49ers. Luck winning may also eventually produce greater donations (from Luck) to the Stanford AD.
Second, the Colts have more Stanford players in key roles.
I would hope the Colts win, but know that the 49ers are a much better team. I just hope that Luck will survive this game. The OL is terrible, and now Luck has an RB back there that likely does not know the protection scheme. It is a rather scary prospect.

The Colts will probably sub in Bradshaw on obvious passing downs. For play action, you can bet the hot route will be a quick one--maybe even the first read.
But the real question is: how much damage is Harbaugh willing to inflict upon Luck?

Just noticed this Sunday, it's Luck+Fleener v Sherman+Baldwin! Objectively the best game of the week.

Last year Sherman made some pretty pointed statements about Wilson being the class of the rookie QBs. Hopefully Luck can make him eat his words. It would be nice to a Fleener TD reception over Sherman for the win.

Unfortunately, it looks like Griff was cut today to make room for a FB (since Havili was banged up this week).

Doug Baldwin is not increasing his jersey sales in Seattle with comments like this:
Quote:"I'm on the record as saying Andrew Luck can be the greatest quarterback who ever played the game of football," Baldwin said Wednesday.
I am looking forward to the Stanford reunion photo at the end of Sunday's game.

In anticipation of Stanford Bowl II, ESPN did a feature on the Shermanator and his trash talking. I can't find it online, unfortunately. It's pretty funny. One of Sherm's go to insults is "snakes have better hands than you"

Monday Night this week, Sunday Night next week.
Can't help but think "Welcome to the New Age" would have been more appropriate for next week's Peyton v. Luck matchup.

The ad was played CONSTANTLY during the UCB vs UCLA game. I am sure our friends at UC schools were rather annoyed by the Luck focus.

One of my buddies that's a die hard Broncos fan says Payme has reinjured his neck and can't throw passes longer than 10 yards. I think the Colts have a good chance to upset them this weekend. Irsay's bulletin board material, of course, is not helpful. What he said is absolutely correct. He just shouldn't say it. The man really has diarrhea of the mouth. Instead of bellyaching about only having one ring, he needs to focus on finding better protection for Andrew.
Re: News from Stanford East -

Well Andrew threw what has got to be the worst pass of his career. We're talking worse than getting his hand caught in the cookie jar throwing to the Venus on the Spider 2. He even did the same "I f'd up" two handed grab of his helmet. Luck missed a wide open Reggie Wayne who had nobody between him and the end zone. Wayne tore his ACL trying to go back to get a badly thrown ball. Reports are that Luck's top target, who is normally an iron man, is done for the season.

The fluke injury result obviously sucks but in Luck's defense he was under a significant amount of pressure when he threw, if I recall correctly he had just sidestepped two guys coming at him.
The slight bright side is a Wayne injury is probably not as bad this year as it would have been last year, some of the other receivers (Hilton mostly but Fleener and even DHB to some degree) seem to be stepping up nicely.

I just saw this tweet from Big Game. We call them "Stanford East" but apparently they've taken to calling us "The Colts' farm team". Pretty funny:
Quote:Brad Wells (BBS) @StampedeBlue
The Colts' farm team will play Arizona State in the PAC 12 championship game on Dec. 7.
Re: News from Stanford East -

A couple interesting things I saw on /r/colts:
1. The Colts have the 2nd most salary cap space. As much as I've been complaining about Grigson's overpaying for mediocre free agents and a bone headed trade, he has apparently been managing the cap well.
http://espn.go.com/blog/indianapolis-colts/post/_/id/3969/colts-will-have-2nd-most-salary-cap-space-during-free-agency?src=mobile
2. The Colts have the easiest schedule for 2014 based on opponents' 2013 record.
http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/115715
Some good moves in free agency combined with a high playoff seed, with a little bit of lower case luck, maybe we will see a Stanford Super Bowl: Colts v 49er/Hawks.
Re: News from Stanford East -

Wow, talk about resurrecting the dead...
It's kind of surprising that they would be so low given that typically the divisional winner has to play all of the divisional winners within the conference. I guess the AFC South is just so bad that playing 6 games against Houston, Jacksonville, and Tennessee skews the overall.
Apparently the schedule is even more favorable when you consider the "tougher" opponents are played at home (opponent win pct for home games is .445 and away is .414)
I don't think I would want to see the outcome of a Colts vs. NFC champ next year. It will take a couple of years at least to build a defense that can play championship ball.
