EDIT: just checked the schedule.  Looks like GameDay will be there.  Safe bet that my former intramural basketball teammate will do color for the game.  Biggest matchup on the ABC schedule.

Highly doubt it. Even though it's on FOX, they'll be at Oregon-MSU unless one of them (somehow) loses this weekend. I keep thinking "oh man we might get gameday for USC" then remembering that game is the same day.

Now, I might be wrong about them not caring about the game being on FOX, but I'd be pretty surprised if we got that gameday.

Re: A sad today in opponent attrition: SC - teejers1 - 08-27-2014

Exactly, garvin.  GameDay crew likes to think they are Kings of their Domain, and a crazed, adoring, crowd surrounding them at all times on set is part of their "fix."

They have a tough enough time getting that at Stanford anyway, but without the students there, the energy will be relatively low.  Too low for GameDay, I suspect.

And on this point, I have to say that I was surprised and impressed how well the Cardinal showed for GameDay for the 2011 home game against Oregon (which Cardinal lost).  I thought there would be noone to keep the crew company at 7:00 a.m. PT (for a late KO).  But evidently, the turnout at the Oval was fabulous (and the signage equally impressive).  So props to all who rallied for that.

Re: A sad today in opponent attrition: SC - Treebound - 08-27-2014

I was there with my kids and it was impressive!  I would love to have them return for the $C game, but I think it's unlikely as well.  The signs would be fantastic... University of Swamped Cousins, ND and U$C a great rivalry - trading dead, fake girlfriends for drowning fake, cousins since 1926!

Josh Shaw fessed up:

No mention of how he got hurt, but the nephew drowning story was an outright fabrication.

University of Sincere Cornerbacks they ain't.

Re: A sad today in opponent attrition: SC - terry - 08-27-2014

Wow. This guy was a captain for U,S,C? Really?

BTW, this story reminds me of the Stanford player, Kellen Kiilsgaard, who really did save two people from drowning a few years ago.

Oh that one's good too.  "University of Suspicious Coverstories" would work well too.  Gonna need to write small though.

Don't know why the story should remind you of anything heroic.  The only thing this story reminds me of is Manti Te'o, and the complete fabrication of his girlfriend and her death.

Guess there isn't much difference between U$C and that South Bend university.  One copied the other's academic shortcomings, and the other copied the fake tearjerking story.

Well, I guess it shows one more difference between Stanford and USC -- their players lie about rescuing drowning people; ours really do it.

I guess it is now clear he was untruthful, as now he has admitted to not telling the truth.  Don't know what the truth was, but I suspect the administration at SC wanted to get to this level of disclosure to quiet the speculation a touch.

Considering Shaw has retained a criminal lawyer, there's still something going on.

Re: A sad today in opponent attrition: SC - TrumpCard - 08-27-2014

Shaw was U$('s most physical corner.  The others in U$('s two-deep will give up at least 35 pounds to Montgomery and more to Cajuste.  Owusu and Pratt will have size mismatches as well.  It will be interesting to see how Coach Shaw will try to take advantage and how Sark will adjust.

Re: A sad today in opponent attrition: SC - needle - 08-27-2014

Should we have a poll on what the auto-correct should be?

I'll throw in University of Specious Cornerbacks for consideration.

Re: A sad today in opponent attrition: SC - CompSci87 - 08-27-2014

A nephew is not a cousin, so let's not have signs or autocorrects with "cousin".  I love the "University of Sprained Consciences" that someone suggested, though.

Big Ben Gardner just put an exclamation point on this story. Too funny!

From the article:

The school didn't explain how Shaw actually was injured, but USC officials say they regret posting a story on their website Monday lauding Shaw's story about a second-story jump onto concrete to rescue his 7-year-old nephew.

"We are extremely disappointed in Josh," USC coach Steve Sarkisian said. "He let us all down. As I have said, nothing in his background led us to doubt him when he told us of his injuries, nor did anything after our initial vetting of his story."

"...initial vetting of his story." ?? ?? ?? ??

What kind of vetting was that?

"Hey Josh, how many stories high was the balcony?"
"2?  Oh, okay."
"And how old, again, is your nephew?"  " He's 7?  Oh, okay."

"Well, sounds good to us... Let's put it out there!"

That graduate assistant who deflated the field goal footballs for Lame Kitten must have been reassigned to the SID's office...

I'm guessing that indefinitely in the case of J. Shaw's suspension is roughly equivalent to two weeks.

As the UW fans over on sportshoopla are saying, under Siete Steve, that suspension just means until he is healthy.
