Vanderbilt offered a scholarship to our PWO DE candidate Aristotle Taylor. I wonder if we will do the same. He is looking to sign this week.
https://247sports.com/Article/Aristotle-Taylor-Vanderbilt-football-recruiting-160147486/
That is his second D1 scholarship offer after Eastern Michigan. Vandy is barely an FBS program right now and in a full-blown rebuild with desperate need of warm bodies. We signed 3 scholarship DL in this class; signing a 4th (who has played more competitive video games than actual football in his life) won't move the needle and in fact probably screws up the scholarship distribution in following classes knowing our staff. Would way rather target 2-3 in 2022 than have Taylor and only target 1. Good luck to him at Vandy.
The Athletic has a story about him (paywalled) at

After reading that article on The Athletic, Taylor sure sounds like a guy Stanford should be willing to put a scholarship offer on.
You can't teach 6-8 and athletic. And the article itself says that if there were prospect camps this years he'd have many more offers. After watching his hudl, it's clearly obvious what Taylor's upside could be. What I see:
- Long arms
- Running ability
- Athletic fluidity
- Big frame that can add a lot of weight
- Great effort
- Incredible hand use for such an inexperienced player
I've seen far less impressive videos of DL prospects Stanford has signed as scholarship players.

Without talking about this specific case (i.e., I have no idea of whether he is worth a scholarship or not), maybe the staff should abandon its older model of scholarship distribution, since it is clearly not working. The model leaves us with one scholarship linebacker between the classes of 2020 and 2021, a two-year gap in defensive ends (assuming Josh Pekola leaves) and defensive tackles.
Given that we basically have to do a complete rebuild, there is nothing wrong with offering one more player this year (if he is worth an offer)
and targeting 2-3 in 2022, especially given that we have had scholarships to spare for several years now. Because, although we have been aggressive for 2022, and have a fair number of offers out to d-linemen, what happens if w
e target three but only
sign one (or worse, strike out). Again, if he's not a BCS caliber player, that's one thing, but a bird in hand is worth two in the bush, especially at positions of dire need.

USC is now a strong contender for Uke according to uscscoop.com? Oh well, we'll find out on Wednesday.

USC's recruiting received a real shot in the arm from the hiring of Donte Williams one year ago as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. Since then, they signed a top 10 class for 2021, (including the #1 overall recruit) and they already have a commitment from the #1 California player for the class of 2022 (and #3 overall). Williams seems to have single-handedly turned around USC recruiting. Stanford could use a shot of energy like that.

It's kind of weird to hear a top-10 class at SC described as a notable improvement, though it is true at least over the past two years.
Here are SC's 247 national recruiting rankings over the past 10 years (247 sports)
2012 - #8
2013 - #13
2014 - #10
2015 - #2
2016 - #10
2017 - #4
2018 - #4
2019 - #20
2020 - #64
2021 - #8

Uke to Stanford! That eases the pain of losing Drew Kendall.
Uke had four hats on the table during his announcement: Stanford, Texas, USC and Northwestern. He also had offers from Oklahoma and Penn State, among others.

Is the fact that Taylor hasn't verballed/signed suggestive that he will stay a PWO with Stanford?

Unclear. In the paywalled article he said he had been planning to sign today but might push it back a week.

"Stay a PWO?" He never committed to us. I would be shocked if he didn't take the Vandy scholarship, though that should've already happened today I would imagine.

I don't think Taylor signed anywhere and appears to be still in play for Stanford. It would be a nice win to get a PWO that turned down a SEC offer.

It appears Aristotle Taylor has yet to sign. Any idea when he might be decided, and is Stanford still a possible landing spot?
Given Josh Pakola transferring, I can't imagine how Stanford doesn't have a scholarship available to use on him.
