Big news from a big one

Is he another guy who won't be here until 2025?

That's my understanding. 2027-2028 as the revival of Stanford football (maybe with a new coach by then)?

Troy Taylor.

We could do much worse! I wish he were our coach today. At bare minimum, it's a post-Shaw palate cleanser for the offensive identity. I think that's important given Stanford's historical heritage with offense and how much it's a turn-the-lights-out moment for the program if we can no longer consistently recruit top 12 QBs nationally. But beyond that, I think Taylor may be a hell of a coach. He's coached two seasons at Sacramento State and they were the first ever FCS playoff seasons for the Hornets and clearly the best seasons since the 1960s. That's an initial two years that make me think this is a coach major college football teams would want to scoop up pretty soon.

The problem we face is that Shaw is several years younger than Taylor and has a cushy gig. Taylor would be a great option for Stanford or Fresno State, but Tedford and Shaw will get to retire on their own timetables.

RE: Class of 2023 - TrumpCard - 08-09-2022

Stanford missed out on Ben Minsch to ND.  Not sure if I missed any other recruits who've recently committed elsewhere.  Seems like a slow time for Cardinal Recruiting though.  Jacobe Johnson looms large, if Stanford really has a chance there.  Beyond Johnson, Su'a is looking like the biggest target left on the board, and he really would fill a need.   I'd also like to see a QB join this class, even if it's a 3-star without a brobdingnagian profile.  Scary for that slot on the roster to look as empty as it does post-McKee.

RE: Class of 2023 - TrumpCard - 08-14-2022

Jacobe to Oklahoma. 2023 recruiting winding down. Fingers still crossed for Su’a.

RE: Class of 2023 - TrumpCard - 08-21-2022

Good get for the Cardinal. I wonder whether there’s still room for Hughes. 4 DLs in 1 class is a lot.

Edit: Although there are already 3 DLs in the class, this isn’t a brobdingnagian class overall. There currently are 15 commits, but Clegg and Lyons are really c/o ‘25. Of the remaining offered recruits, Esera and Thomason also are really c/o ‘25. The remaining ‘23 recruits with an offer and interest in Stanford are Su’a, Snowden, Newsom, Cayden Lee, Tre Williams, Jaylen Johnson, and Elijah Hughes. And then I’m assuming Shaw is still chasing a QB even if there’s no reported offer. With a 100% hit rate and no attrition from the current commits, that’s still only 21. And Johnson plays RB, and since there already are 2 RBs in the class, I’m not sure there’s room for him either. So the upshot is that this class will probably end up being a bit imbalanced, whether it’s extra DLs or RBs or both. Still looking like a low end top 25 class though, which is impressive considering all the headwinds.

Geweniger is an Edge and Mukam is more of a “tweener” dependent on how his body fills out. We certainly have room for Hughes.

Thanks, Samuel. Good to hear that there’s room for Hughes. It’s interesting that 247 is the only service that has bothered to rate him, and yet that his rating on 247 is pretty solid and consistent with his offer list.

Emory Williams is still seen as a possible decommit/flip from Miami, but it's unclear to me whether Stanford has a shot.

Sounds like with have lost Armel Mukam to ND - not ideal but DLine class still looks decent especially given what has gone before.... hopefully we can still pick up one or two more e.g. Hughes, Williams or Siale Esera....

disappointing to lose him to the Domers.

Interestingly, Mukam is the lowest-rated prospect out of ND's entire class of 23 commits, and he's one of only three 3-star guys.  (The other two are bordering on 4 stars.)  The fact that the Domers wanted him says a lot, though.

Did Mukam receive positive admission news from Stanford?

Plausible door #1.

Praise for Arkansas, South Carolina plus unexpected rivalries: Recruiting mailbag - The Athletic

This article makes reference to the recruiting success that both Arkansas and South Carolina are having for 2023 recruits, and the success that Stanford is having for 2023 recruits, especially with respect to last season's 3-9 record.

RE: Class of 2023 - TrumpCard - 09-02-2022

Yeah, if Shaw somehow pulls off a miracle and lands a half-way decent QB, this class will be a coup. Even more so if Su’a comes. He’s really needed given the lack of LB depth.

RE: Class of 2023 - TrumpCard - 09-06-2022

I hadn't noticed this until just now, but Brock Fonoimoana (Safety from Utah, who is taking an LDS mission, IIRC) committed to Utah a few weeks ago.  A good number of the remaining recruits on Stanford's board have explicitly stated that they are planning on a mid- to late-season decision.  I have to think some of them are just waiting for an admissions decision.  Still, with only 12 commits and 7 remaining recruits left on the board who would would arrive next Fall (AFAIK), this class isn't likely to be particularly large.  (I'm omitting Walker Lyons, Hunter Clegg, Siale Esera and Ethan Thomason because they're each taking an LDS mission, IIRC).  Does anyone know of recruits who are still plasusible besides Leviticus Su'a, Cayden Lee, Snowden Smith, Asa Newsom, Tre Williams, Jaylen Johnson, and Elijah Hughes?  Maybe a QB?  (My kingdom for a QB).

At least nobody needs to worry about when exactly he's going to be here anymore.
