RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - joemontes - 10-15-2023

Something wrong with my Sling connection so wasn't able to watch
but found out that Stanford beat UCLA after losing 1st set, 25-27,
and finally annihilating the Bruins in Set 4, 25-10.
As usual, they started slow and struggled in 1st set like in their match
vs USC, but once they found their stride, kicked into high gear
and there was no turning back....

Surprising upset as ASU dominated Oregon, 3-0, on the road.
That, after losing to cellar dweller OSU last Friday.
Head scratcher indeed!

ASU's loss to OSU was surprising to me but not their win against Oregon.  ASU is a good team with an 18-2 record.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - Spiny_Norman - 10-15-2023

Stanford closes out the 1st half of the conference season with a trip to the Oregons next weekend. Oregon State on Friday evening, then a quick turnaround for a very important match at Oregon next Sunday at noon.

Recording should be available by 7:30 pm 10/15 left coast time.  I use fubo.tv which is pretty reliable. Probably more expensive, too.

Nice theory, but reality was messier.
Stanford was up 18-14 in the first set.  After that it was 7-13.
Stanford was up 19-12 in the second set.  Then it was 5-11 before Stanford scored the final point.
Stanford was up 19-13 in the third set.  Then it was 5-7 before Stanford scored the final point.

I kinda felt Stanford was trying to aim shots too much after they got the big leads in those sets.  But I'm no VB expert.

I LOVE to see a big, fat ZERO next to USC's logo at the end of a game. LOVE IT.

Same.

Today's AVCA poll released.  Stanford remains at #3.  Louisville at #5.  So Stanford has played #2, #4, #5, #6, and #8. Arizona State and Florida tied for #17. Stanford has played both those teams.

https://www.avca.org/polls-awards/polls/?_season=2023&_divisions=division-i-women

Stanford #2 in NCAA RPI ranking.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - BobK - 10-16-2023

I am seeing 2 things right now with this team.

1. Inconsistent serve reception
2. Sluggish rallying some sets

As a result they are really vulnerable to big runs right now in rotations 4-6 when Miner is in the front row. Too much junk falls on whichever outside is in the front row per thing 1 - the passes aren’t good enough to get Kipp from the back and the MB involved. They also then don’t get enough cheap points per thing 2 to get out of the bad rotations. My sense says it’s worse with Baird in the front vs. Rubin but I haven’t watched closely enough. I also assume Baird is H1 and she would then be up front alone twice as much.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - Softball Fan - 10-18-2023

I agree. Also too many unforced mistakes.  When all starters are playing to potential Stanford can beat any team in the country, but the players have to find a way to be more consistent throughout an entire match.

I would like to see Miner set Francis more often in front of her.  I don't think the slide is a strong play for Francis; slow in her approach and often starts toward the right side so blockers aren't fooled.  Sami gets some kills by hitting over top the block.

Stanford vs Oregon Sunday night on ESPN

Nebraska vs Wisconsin Saturday night on B1G Network.  Ticket prices on Stubhub; upper level $600, lower lever $900, premium seating over $1,300.

Primetime Women's College Volleyball has truly arrived!

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - Softball Fan - 10-18-2023

The surge in popularity for college WVB is somewhat surprising to me .   I read both the Nebraska vs Stanford match and the Louisville vs Stanford match brought in more TV viewers than a typical WNBA regular season game.

Right now I'm watching on ESPN2 Texas play at unranked TCU before a record crowd and they are loud.  Match tied 2-2 at the moment going to a fifth and final set.

TCU get up match point on service error! What did you think of that floor; made be dizzy when an overhead view?

I finally found a floor I dislike more than the Oregon one.

If Stanford hadn't gotten into a Power 5 conference, I suspect this list would be shorter after a few years.

Did Stanford WVB have a game tonight?

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - cardfan77 - 10-20-2023

They did. Swept OSU. OSU started the match, leading 4-1. Stanford challenged a call, call reversed and Stanford dominated from there. Wasn’t competitive at all. I wasn’t paying attention much to the game but when I did, I noticed Kami setting the middle more.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - TonyLima - 10-22-2023

Stanford gets the first set. Them Oregon gals been spending time in the weight room and at the training table.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - 82 Card - 10-22-2023

First set is in the books against the Ducks. Won 25-23. Started out looking solid but then Oregon block got them ahead until Stanford got it going again at the end.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - Card10Fan - 10-22-2023

Rotations when Baird is in the back row are a problem. Rubin is having a nice game.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - mbdude - 10-22-2023

Stanford block non existent so far
