Anything short of a tourney bid isn't enough - same as what the standard was at the start of the season.
Great game by our guys. So many great backdoor cuts in the paint, and enough three pointers to keep the defense honest. We dominated in the paint, offensively.
Sat near the dad of (team manager turned scholly recipient) Gil-Silva, and chatted with him a bit. Proud papa, and sounds like a good kid. Wish we had had more nights like tonight earlier in the year...

When Walton is doing color, everything and everyone is either the best ever or worst ever. Or is ignored while he rambles on about who-knows-what.

Haase should be fired even if we go on a fluky run and make the Tourney. Oregon State made that fluky run all the way to the Elite 8 two years ago. Since then? 3-28 in 2022 and 11-21 this year. And OSU is stuck with Tinkle until 2027 because their AD must be as incompetent as Muir.
Good coaches make the Tourney by getting at-large bids. Haase has had more chances than he deserved. Time to move on.

I think Hasse stays.
I just don’t think we are in a position to get anyone better.
Attendance is 1/3 of what it was 20 years.
Our league right now is unknown although that could change this month
A successful coach at D1 wouldn’t be interested almost certainly
A rising assistant? Like Dawkins and DiBiaso? That sure worked lol
The rising assistant does well and moves on?
I follow closely a number of Stanford sports so I know Muir has done a good job hiring including my choice for a year , Taylor
But we may see tomorrow

Walton's good entertainment in small doses. Too much exposure and he becomes wearisome. He's also not the guy I want for the high-profile, critical games that don't benefit from his extra-curricular rants. A random mid-season Pac-12 game? He's fine. Call this a luke-warm endorsement.

Haven't heard Walton that much but that was my impression when I have. He has a mildly amusing shtick that could get old fairly fast.
Also, the notion that we shouldn't get rid of Haase because we don't think we can find anyone better strikes me as a bit defeatist.
However if by some minor (some might say major) miracle he could win the Pac-12 tourney and get us in the big dance, I would vote for giving him another year. It doesn't have to be an extended contract like OSU gave Tinkle.

An interesting question: if you were an up and coming coach from a smaller conference, which head coaching job looks worse: Stanford or Cal. Cal - under resourced, facility challenges, fan indifference. Stanford: AD who appears to be running things on autopilot, and until proven otherwise, seeming indifference to the NIL issues, and at best a dormant fan base.

BobK lists all the reasons to make a change. "Can't get anyone better" is a horrible reason for keeping a coach. Of course there is someone better, even if you need to churn through losers to find him or her.
But I'd rather a new President, Provost, and AD make a change, so if Haase is there to go through the motions next year without a contract extension, whatever.
Cal is a dumpster on fire strapped with frayed chords to a driverless flatbed truck going over a cliff into a nuclear waste repository. It is a toxic job that someone probably good will take instead of being Stanford's next HC, because Muir isn't dumping Haase. Stanford could outspend anyone into oblivion if they wanted to do so. They could get Tony Bennett to move back west. That won't happen, so the trick is to identify the next Tony Bennett before he goes to a UVA, wins a title and becomes too good for Stanford. I don't see Muir as being capable of that. Stanford needs a full reset from top to, well not the bottom, but wherever in middle management it stops mattering.
