Virginia is correct!
So the list is 3 from the Big 10 (Illinois, Maryland, Rutgers) and 3 from the ACC (SMU, Syracuse, Virginia).

Which Dodger pitcher has been left off of the NLDS postseason roster versus the division rival Padres?

Hints:

- He is 27-10 over the past three seasons.
- He has three Cy Young awards
- He has made 12 All-Star teams
- He has the 28th best career WAR
- He has the second-highest winning percentage in MLB history of any pitcher with at least 200 wins, behind Al Spalding (#1) and just in front of Whitey Ford.
- His career record against the Giants is 26-16 with a 2.04 ERA. While that seems good, it's actually his worst percentage record against any of his 12 opponents with at least 13 decisions.
- He is 23-11 against the Padres with a 2.19 ERA over his career.

Which quarterback has the highest career passer rating in NFL history over their first 25 games?

In recognition of Vandy’s win over Alabama….

In the history of the AP College Football Poll, an unranked team has defeated the #1 ranked team forty times.

Stanford has done it once.

Who was the opponent?

Nope.  SC was ranked #2 two points behind LSU the week they lost to Stanford.

Dang -  was it vs UW back in late 70s or early 80s?

RE: Sports trivia thread 2024 - lex24 - 10-07-2024

UW.  At Stanford Stadium.  81 i think.

Wrong.

My second guess is Oklahoma 1980.

RE: Sports trivia thread 2024 - Mick - 10-07-2024

Pretty sure it was Notre Dame.

Ah, yes - now riddle me this (easy) followup, what's the "Who's you're daddy?" connection in play between that game and Saturday's?

Notre Dame's quarterback that day was Rick Mirer...father of Charlie Mirer, Stanford's 6'6" Junior quarterback.

Nice Mick!  I'm kicking myself about not getting that one.

The Padres tied a record with six home runs against the Dodgers (go Pads!).

What previous teams have hit six home runs in a game?

BC

Giants, Yankees, Orioles, A's. And Red Sox.  Braves. Maybe the Reds...

RE: Sports trivia thread 2024 - BostonCard - 10-08-2024

Should clarify that the record is in a playoff game, and we are looking for the two teams to have hit six home runs in a playoff game before the Padres.  Hint, both were within the last 10 years.

RE: Sports trivia thread 2024 - BostonCard - 10-08-2024

No takers?

Previous 6 homer playoff games: 2023 Phillies and 2015 Cubs, both ironically enough in game 3 of the NLDS; Padres did it in Game 2 of the NLDS.

Yeah, I looked it up thinking it was someone who played Cinci in their micro field but it wasn’t … and I had disqualified myself.
