In the videos I watched back when Yu was being recruited she played OPP or setter for her club team.  So I believe she has the most experience in club hitting from the right side.

Until yesterday, Hu had been limited to a role as a serving specialist.  She is, iirc, a true freshman.  Hambly may well be bringing her along slowly.  Her play against Cal was eye-opening and pretty impressive.

Karch Kiraly will coach the USA men's team.  Search is under way for new USA women's coach.  Plummer was pretty well entrenched in the program and Karch seemed to favor Hentz for libero moving forward.  Will have to wait for who they select as women's coach and what direction she/he wants to go in.

I was at the match. Fairly early on in Set 2, after a break in play - either a challenge or an early timeout by Cal, Harvey came over and talked to Hambly, then they talked to the down ref, then the trainer. It was all on the other end of the court from where I was sitting, so it wasn’t entirely clear what the problem was. Then Harvey was substituted out, Yu came in, and Harvey and the trainer left the floor. From what I could see of the discussions, it looked like it might have been a blood on the uniform — knee pad, perhaps — but the strange thing was that Harvey did not return to the floor until the set was almost over. That seemed like an awfully long time for a uniform issue.  When she did return, however, there was no evidence of any continuing problem or injury. Before Set 3, Harvey had conversations with several other team members and it looked like she was explaining something, although it wasn’t entirely clear what it was.

Bottom line: it wasn’t an intentional sub on Hambly’s part , but an unexpected problem that took Harvey out of commission for several minutes.  Doesn’t appear to be a continuing concern, however.

Cal (2-7 conference) at Stanford (7-2 conference) tonight Friday at 7:00pm PT on ACCNX.  Hopefully Cal plays well so the home fans will see an exciting game.  Fans get a free crossbody bag. I don't know what that is but it probably has the Stanford logo on it.

Cal is in no danger of finishing last in the ACC as Syracuse has never won a conference game in program history.

Video with a few highlights of the Cal game on Wednesday. It reminds me that Harvey probably has the highest vertical jump on the team.

Well, we took the first set, but it was 25-23.

On the positive side, Ipar Kurt has been set 5 times and has 5 kills for a hitting percentage of 1.000.
On the negative side, Harvey has 2 errors and 3 kills in six sets while Rubin has 1 error and 2 kills on 8 sets.  Combined they are hitting .142
