And what else do the simple folk do
To help them escape when they're blue?

They sit around and wonder
What royal folk would do.
And that's what simple folk do.

Now 22-8.

UCLA is looking good early! I just can't ever cheer for Geno and Uconn.  I see Stanford alum and Kiki's aunt Susan Rice is in attendance. Betts has been contained thus far.

We've had some games over the years with UCLA where they just game up blazing and hustling like beating Stanford was like their National Championship. That's how it looks thus far. They have all the energy and hustle plays. They just want it more than Uconn and honestly just look better.

RE: WBB 2023-2024 Season - 81alum - 11-24-2023

UCLA is shooting lights-out from three point range--what did the announcers say, 77%?  That would be enough to defeat anyone.  But we'll see if the nature of the game changes.

What is also impressive is the UCLA defense.  They are contesting almost every shot.  Denying UConn the ball inside but also guarding the perimeter.  UConn is, obviously, not a bad offensive team but they look disjointed and out of sorts.  Maybe losing Fudd has had an even deeper effect than expected.

UCLA is 6-10 from outside the arc halfway through the 2nd Q.

RE: WBB 2023-2024 Season - triangle2 - 11-24-2023

UCLA looks great, and they're hitting everything from the outside. Betts, honestly, looks about the same as last year. Just watched her bring the ball down and turn right into a double team for a turnover.

RE: WBB 2023-2024 Season - martyup - 11-24-2023

UCLA blew a 19 point lead and now only leads by 5 at the half.

RE: WBB 2023-2024 Season - 81alum - 11-24-2023

Well, the 2nd quarter was almost the reverse of the 1st quarter.  UCLA 39-34 at the half.

It's like anybody not named Bueckers can't shoot. And the refs are not allowed to call her for traveling?

She got whistled once for steps.

RE: WBB 2023-2024 Season - Jskass - 11-24-2023

Listening to UCLA-UConn on the UCLA feed: "Nika Muhl took 5 steps and didn't get called for the travel." Hysterical!

RE: WBB 2023-2024 Season - 81alum - 11-24-2023

Rice has come into her own.  She is matching Bueckers basket for basket, and the rest of UCLA is better than the rest of UConn.

What is shocking is the ineffectiveness of Edwards.  1-10 so far.  And it isn't mostly Betts--she is just missing open jumpers.

RE: WBB 2023-2024 Season - martyup - 11-24-2023

UCLA back up now by 22.

RE: WBB 2023-2024 Season - 81alum - 11-24-2023

Osborne 6-9 from three point range.  56% for the year.  Remember when UCLA was not a good three point shooting team?

UCONN seems to have given up on defending the perimeter.  It's killing them.

RE: WBB 2023-2024 Season - 81alum - 11-24-2023

UCLA 78 UConn 67.  Rice with 24, Bueckers with 31, but she could not do it alone.

RE: WBB 2023-2024 Season - Lorcan - 11-25-2023

Agnes Emma-Nnopu going off against Nebraska right now, 20 points so far in the first half shooting 6-9 from three.
