At the chalk talk, Hambly was asked about Blyashov.
He said they had planned to play her in the Boston College match, but then she had a "set back".
It sounds like a red-shirt year is becoming more likely. It has been frustrating for her, he said.
Was tracking the score of the Pitt-Louisville match while at Maples. The Cardinals forced a fifth set, but lost.

Today's AVCA poll. Top 6 teams stay the same. Stanford at #5.

Today's NCAA RPI. Stanford stays at #5. Fortunately playing Cal twice didn't take them down a position.
Holly McPeak says she expects #8 Wisconsin to end up a #1 regional seed. I don't see it unless they run the table the balance of the season.
Stanford at Miami Friday and at Florida State Sunday. Stanford should be able to handle these teams if they keep unforced errors to a reasonable level.

Florida State could be a test. They pushed Louisville to a 5th set before falling 3 weeks ago. That's the only match FSU has lost at home this season.

Hmmm. Well, they have two matches against Nebraska and one against Penn State, so they should have the opportunity to play into a #1 regional seed. OTOH, they have losses to both Louisville and Stanford (at a nominally neutral site, though it was still pretty local for them), so it would be hard to justify including them over Louisville (the current #4 team) at this time.
Of course, still a lot of season left to play, but I think Wisconsin would have to win two out of the three of the matches against the top-4 teams in the BiGTen to win itself a regional #1 seed.
The more relevant question for us is whether we can sneak into a regional #1 seed if we beat Louisville at home. I would think not without Louisville or someone else ahead of us also losing (and us winning out, which seems unlikely), given that we have lost three against the teams ahead of us (all sweeps).

I think if the Cardinal beats the Cardinals on 11/30, they (Stanford) have a better than 50/50 chance of being the number 4 overall seed.
(Though any "bad" loss between then and now probably negates this.)
(1) Recency effect; if the committee hasn't already made up their minds before the match, it should have added impact at decision time.
(2) Geography: this isn't supposed to matter. But if Pitt, Penn State and Nebraska are hosting, then having Stanford (instead of Louisville) gives them better geographic balance for the regions. Good for spreading the TV times across the time zones.
(3) Pro-Stanford bias (?): Historically, Stanford has been seeded better than their RPI several times (and rarely, if ever, worse). (Of course, committee membership has changed over the years, so there may be nothing to this.)
None of these are particularly strong arguments, but I think they may add a slight tilt in Stanford's favor.

The Woofing Gods will note this is also dependent on Stanford not faltering in the 9 matches prior to the Louisville match.
While Stanford may be expected to win, no one should assume that nothing will go rong.

Good comments BC. Still 5 weeks left so plenty of upsets likely. Louisville has Pitt and Stanford on the road the last weekend plus UNC. We just have Louisville as a top team but GA Tech (twice), UNC, and FL St. If, and that's a big IF, we win out, I think it's more likely than not that we end up ahead of Louisville and get a #1 regional seed. WI needs to beat out either NE or Penn St to get a #1 regional seed. I don't see it and think it's unlikely that either the ACC or the B10 will get more than 2 #1 seed.

The current "RPI Futures" calculation predicts a season-end RPI of #4 for Stanford, with a 24-5 record (i.e, two more losses).
This uses win probabilities based on the "Pablo" computer rankings for all Div-I schools.
It has Penn State dropping to #6; not sure how likely that is. That would give the ACC 3 out of 4 top seeds.

RPI is a big factor, but there are other criteria -- strength of schedule, head to head match-ups, results vs common opponents, significant wins/losses and the location of those contests. Although the selection committee always says that they look at each team individually and conferences don't matter, I can't imagine 3 ACC teams getting #1 seeds. If Pitt wins the conference (they already have beaten Stanford and Louisville, and have a remaining match against Louisville that we should want Pitt to win), I think it will be between Louisville and Stanford on who gets a #1 regional seed and not likely we both do. I'm hoping Louisville losing to Pitt and to us, if we both win out in our other matches, would put us above Louisville. As noted, plenty of matches left to play. That last #1 regional seed will be between Penn St/Wisconsin, Creighton, or possibly Texas.

Stanford at Miami today at 4:00pm PT on ACCNX.
Miami's record is a conundrum. They are 5-5 in conference. However they have some wins against ranked teams in non-conference including Texas at Austin.

I had to check the history, and was reminded that three Big Ten teams were top-4 seeds in 2016: Nebraska, Wisconsin & Minnesota, along with Texas. And who won? Overall number 6 seed, Stanford.
But as Bobk said, a lot of volleyball yet to play.

Set 1 in the Stanford match. High level volleyball so far from both teams. Set 1 could go either way.
Stanford wins set 1. Good playing all around by Stanford. Will it last? Harvey with some nice hitting.
How quickly fortunes change. Stanford getting destroyed in set 2 at the moment.

My thought, too.
Stanford was down 15-5, fought back to within 1 (21-22), but couldn't stop Miami in the end.
Stanford hit 0.500 in the first set, 0.143 in the second.
