Sadly, Stanford got blanked by UCLA today.
The Cardinal just couldn't recapture their crisp play of yesterday.
UCLA was without one of their usual #1 players (Maggie Boyd), but still handled Stanford.
Disappointing, but still nice that they finally beat UCLA once.
On to Gulf Shores.
The NCAA selection announcement is Sunday at 8:00am PDT.
On Volleytalk, USC fans were accusing UCLA of sandbagging by putting Whitmarsh & Newberry at the 5s. Looking at past UCLA matches, it does not seem to be the case; at least, not obviously so. UCLA is very deep in talent (they are going to lose a lot to graduation).
One more thing: I talked briefly to Angela Rock after today's matches. She said she was just "filling in" for the end of the season, because the assistant (Summer Nash) resigned. So that's why the assistant coach position has been posted.
Here's the announcement of Nash's hiring last spring:

Junior Maya Harvey has been admitted to Stanford's Co-term Masters program in Computer Science.

Great about Harvey having her back for next season

You look at Nash's resume and she has been at least nine different jobs. I think both beach vb and indoor vb should put more emphasis in the future on hiring coaches with a stable track record.

The NCAA bracket is out:
https://www.ncaa.com/brackets/beach-volleyball/nc/2023
Stanford is seeded #10 and will take on #7 GCU. I had hoped they might get a top-8 seed, but their results were not consistent enough, I guess.
They did beat GCU at home 4-1 a little over a week ago, winning the 1s through 4s. (Hopefully we have enough depth next year to have five solid teams.) And fortunately they don't have to play early in the morning the first day (12 noon PDT, Friday, May 5th
Wednesday, May 3rd).
I really wish they had kept the double-elimination format.

Good it is a 16 team field. I also would prefer the entire tournament be double elimination. Stanford could fly to Alabama, play one match, lose, and then fly home.
Most professional volleyball tournaments are double elimination. Most college sports are single elimination tournaments. I guess the NCAA wanted to keep a similar tournament format to other college sports.

The tournament will be carried on ESPNU and streamed on ESPN+ (with multiple streams for the different courts).

And it sounds like Stanford was moved down from the #9 seed to avoid a first round match-up with #8 Cal. (Chatter on VT.)

It’s 17 teams with a play in game
Interesting on moving Stanford down.

Think of it this way:
If Stanford beats Grand Canyon as they did recently, then its like they were a number 7 seed.

The dual scheduled for 11:00am (Stetson vs. TCU) is just getting warmed up at 12:55.
So Stanford may be closer to 2pm (if no further delays).

I don't why they estimate down to the minute. There are five two-person team matches within each school match. Each team match can be two or three sets. Impossible to predict. My guess Stanford starts around 2:30 pm PT.
