Awful baserunning by Stanford as a runner gets tagged out with the bases loaded while trying to return to 2nd after a Sasaki line out.
End of inning (7).
Stanford losing, 4-3.

That was the runner on third's fault (perhaps the third base coach ?). He should have tagged up and scored (tied the game) after Sasaki hit a screaming line drive that seemed to be dropping.
The man on second thought the ball was either going to drop for a hit or the man on third surely would have tagged up and tried to score.
The man on third had to scramble to get back to the bag since he didn't tag up as did the man on second. The man on second was tagged out before reaching second base

Or coaching. Or both.

Wasted a homer by Sasaki on his 21st birthday yesterday and Stanford baseball captioned the clip as ordering up a Sasaki bomb :)

Today’s 14-6 defeat of the Miami Hurricanes was a fun one to witness in person.
Brock Sell’s first college HR was fun, as was Sasaki’s encore HR after his birthday bash. And Trev Moore did his thing after a shaky start. We were definitely helped by non-fundamental D from Miami, but that cuts both ways. You win some, you lose some. Onward!

With the 1-2 home series vs Miami, Stanford baseball is still treading water below .500 at 17-19.
Compared to last week at this time, Stanford's RPI has fallen one notch to #132, just behind 19-20 Abilene Christian.
Remaining schedule for Stanford:
vs #10 Florida State x 3
vs #129 UC Davis x 1
@ #74 Notre Dame x 3
vs #224 San Francisco x 1
vs #49 NC State x 3
vs #122 Saint Mary's x 1
@ #71 Cal x 3
Stanford is currently tied for 10th in the ACC, and the path to an at-large invitation to the NCAA tournament looks extremely narrow. Winning 2 out of 3 in each of the remaining conference series would give the Cardinal a 15-15 conference record, which is what Louisville had last year when they were one of the last teams to get into the NCAA tournament. Add wins in the remaining 3 mid-week games would give Stanford an overall record of 28-23. Even the above overly optimistic scenario is probably not enough, as none of the at-large teams from 2025 had as many as 23 losses. It would depend on the RPI, which is still used by the baseball selection committee.

Santa Clara's head coach is Rusty Filter, longtime associate head coach at Stanford under Mark Marquess.
Stanford won, by the way, 6-4, to avenge last week's loss to the Broncos.

I'm only following the gamecast. Why did we change pitchers?
Because we went from a pitcher with an ERA of under 4.00 who gave up only 1 hit and no runs over two innings and threw 13 of 17 pitches for strikes, to a pitcher with an ERA over 7.00 who promptly gave up two hits before recording an out and then gave up two runs before getting another out. But then, I'm not watching or listening ...
Well, I guess the game played out just like the coaches drew it up. :). Parker (who got the win!) was kept in despite giving up three runs, and proceeded to pitch two scoreless innings. We scored four runs in the fifth, and FSU wasn't able to bring anyone else across the plate. Good guys get the win against the #5 team in the country.

Esqy has been going with pitching by committee for much of the season. 2 awesome innings are no guarantee of a 3rd one with this staff, I guess. (Papa John’s posts are exhibit A.) The only exception is Trevor Moore, who is often tasked with 6-out saves, like today. I’m not complaining. :)

The 1990 baseball team (which won a record 59 wins!) on hand for the first pitch (and the memorial for Nine earlier in the week), apparently now hanging out in the party tent area. The game is tied 4-4 after 3 innings, thanks to a Two-run Tokheim Torpedo in that inning.

Both teams have 7 runs on 7 hits after 7 innings (only because FSU LF absolutely ROBBED Jeon of a HR with 2 men on, timing the jump over the LF wall and bringing the ball back)!
