Walter Big Train Johnson
Juan The Dominican Dandy Marichal
The Waners were Big Poison and Little Poison

Yogi Berra 2 in a row

RE: Sports trivia thread - Phogge - 03-23-2021

Bobbb got it but I'm not sure that he understood the question.

Berra won it in '54 and '55 and finished second in '53 and '56.

Foxx won two in a row but didn't place in the year before and was 10th after his second. His third award happened five seasons after his second.

As for nicknames Bobbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb has seven of the ten.

RE: Sports trivia thread - BobK - 03-23-2021

I don’t know the other two

RE: Sports trivia thread - Phogge - 03-23-2021

George “Shotgun” Shuba, Dodger leftfielder before Sandy Amoros. alternated with Andy Pafko.

Mordecai Brown. “Three Finger” or Centennial. Born July 4, 1876. Middle name Peter. Some argument over Centennial as another middle name or nickname.

He was also called Miner, Minor and Brownie. Guy had more names than Ron Herbal had hits. I have an old book in a box somewhere that states that some teammates used Centennial as a nickname and didn’t understand that it was a given from his father.

I had a feeling about Henry, and when I checked to see if that was right, I found Charles, whose stats are insane.  Sanders, Sayers, and Brown were low-hanging fruit.
