Actually neither is completely accurate. I was merely stating that Joyce is part of the alluded to "luck" Dawn has in having local talent. Did not mean to imply that we have an advantage. Joyce REALLY cares about her academics. Stanford scares me in that regard. Visited us recently wearing a Yale t-shirt.

a throwback from Hoopgurlz when I was asked by Hoopgurlz to rank recruiting classes from 2006-2010.
I consider the ESPN grade to be the primary criterion, and the ESPN overall ranking kind of
provides a sub-ranking within the ESPN grade.
For example:
#1 WATKINS is 98(1) and #2 WILLIAMS is 98(2);
#3 DONOVAN is 97(1), #4 TOOMEY is 97(2), #5 HIDALGO is 97(3), etc.
#12 BOOKER is 96(1), #13 FULWILEY is 96(2), etc
#25 Tessa JOHNSON is 95(1), #26 BELL is 95(2), etc.
There are some subjective elements that enter the equation,
like what I did when I proposed a tie for #3
among Duke, South Carolina and UConn
in the latest edition after #13 FULWILEY and
#27 OKUNANWA announced their commitments.
I really appreciate the ESPN ranking system, because the ESPN grade
differentiates the talent levels of players. This way,
we are made aware that #1 WATKINS and #2 Mikayla WILLIAMS
(both with ESPN grade = 98) are a cut above the next level of talents
who have an ESPN grade = 97 which include #3 DONOVAN,
#4 TOOMEY, #5 HIDALGO...#10 OGDEN and #11 SCOTT, and so on.
There may be some false precision in that, especially once you get past the top few recruits, but you go with the data you have, and I appreciate your efforts.
What I was trying to ask is how you arrive at your team rankings, and especially how you balance the quality versus quantity question. For example, let’s say that school A has two recruits, ranked 10 and 20, while school B has three recruits, ranked 15, 25, and 35. Is adding the third recruit enough to overcome a 5 spot gap between the top two recruits in each school?
I’m not quibbling with your rankings, which pass the eyeball test, but I was wondering if you had a quantitative methodology or if you were using the “eyeball” method.

#19 Laila Reynolds, a 6'0 guard out of Maryland has committed to Florida this afternoon. UCLA was one of her finalists.
Another miss for the Bruins in an attempt to snag some top talent following their highly regarded 2022 class. Looks like UCLA will just sign 1 recruit in the class, #32 Amanda Muse a 6'4 post.

100%. Even more the selling point to join an established program (Psss, Juju). It's so rare to turn things around in the short 4 year window these players have. And it's crucial to sign top recruits in consecutive years, something UCLA wasn't able to do.

in 2006-2010 for Hoopgurlz, it's really more of an "eyeball"
method, but with some mental statistical calculations involved.
And I definitely hear you wrt quantity vs quality question.
This is pretty evident when I bunched together Duke,
South Carolina and UConn (mentioned alphabetically)
as a three-way tie for #3. I could have easily opted
for South Carolina to have sole possession of #3
with 4 commits 96(#2), 96 (#6), 95(#1) and 94(#3),
compared to 3 commits for both
Duke 97(#1), 95(#3) and 95(#5) and
UConn 97(#4), 96(#4) and 94(#4).
But, for me, the quality of Duke's Top 3 (#3 overall) OR
UConn's Top 6 (#6 overall) high 97 grade commit
is comparable to the quality of South Carolina's
96(#2) and 96(#6) combined 1st and 2nd recruits.
Because, historically speaking, a Top 5+ recruit
has the same or even double the impact
of two Top 15+ recruits.

- RS So 6'4 Emily BESSOIR (leading member of several French youth national teams)
- So 6'4 Izzy ANSTLEY (leading member of Australia's U19 national team,
of which Stanford's Agnes EMMA-NNOPU was also a member,
that almost upset the USA in the gold medal game in 2019)
- Fr 6'3 Lina SONTAG (leading member of several German youth national teams
and a reserve for the German senior national team)
They have a 4th player, RS So 6'4 Angela DUGALIC, a former McDAA
from Illinois and was a member of the Serbian senior national team
during the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
Unfortunately, they can't seem to play together at the same time,
as most of them were/are injured. BESSOIR missed the entire
last season, while DUGALIC will miss the entire current season
and ANSTLEY is currently recuperating from an injury but will
hopefully be back in late Dec in time for the start of PAC 12 play.

Thanks Joe, that makes a lot of sense, and I appreciate the discussion. Your point about top-5 talent is well-taken. For example, would a class that had the #10 and #11 recruits really be the same as a class with the #1 and #20 recruits? Usually the difference between the #11 and #20 is pretty small, while the difference between the #1 and #10 is much larger.

#16 Prosper to Notre Dame, spreading the wealth a bit. She chose the Irish over Arizona, Duke, UNC and South Carolina.
Now just Watkins and Hidalgo, the last 2 uncommitted prospects in the top 40.

PG - Jenna BROWN 5'10 (as 6th year transfer from Stanford, #18 overall in 2018, McDAA)

Hopefully Prosper to Notre Dame isn't a big draw for Hidalgo. They needed Prosper bad, otherwise Hidalgo would've been pretty lonely heading there.

She's a shifty, quick, small point guard with great court vision and deep range. And can pressure the ball.
