RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 - johnbar - 11-01-2024

Nebraska swept Wisconsin in Madison.

Missouri upset Texas in five sets, in Austin.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 - TonyLima - 11-03-2024

Against Florida State. Stanford looked pathetic in the first set. They won the second, and are now up 21 to 8 in the third.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 - johnbar - 11-03-2024

Stanford at FSU.

FSU took an early lead in set one, but Stanford came back, and it was back and forth.  FSU won it.
Stanford took the second pretty easily, and is completely dominating in the third.

Great minds …

Agree.
FSU put up a good fight in the fourth set.
The refs were terrible.

One way to avoid losing in 5 is to win in 4.  Team rebounded nicely, showed a lot of heart.

Unrelated: what is with the low roofs in the Florida gyms? At least one pass literally went over a rafter.

Refs in Miami were also pretty bad. Is this what we have to look forward to in the ACC?

I assume Miami has a bigger gym for their basketball teams and VB is relegated to that equivalent of a HS gym.
FSU wasn't so bad; and Maples has that dang low scoreboard.

Title IX, Florida style.

Ah. Of course. TYVM.

Not sure what is going on at Texas but they just lost again.  That's three in a row.
(That's not helping Stanford's RPI.)
I see some Texas fans talking about team chemistry.

Maybe putting together a top team each year with transfers isn’t a sure solution after all.

You mean … hear me out … this might be a team sport?

https://www.avca.org/polls-awards/polls/?_season=2024&_divisions=division-i-women

Today's AVCA poll released:   Stanford at #6

Creighton moves up to #5.   Seems reasonable to me.  The only match Creighton might lose here on out is to Marquette on Sunday.

When this Stanford team plays well they can play on the same court with Pitt and Nebraska.  The problem is the team doesn't play well for an entire match or usually even for an entire set.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 - johnbar - 11-04-2024

Oregon dropped form 10th to 12th, and Texas from 9th to 15th.  That's one of the biggest drops I can recall this far into the season.

Official NCAA RPI:  Stanford #6  Creighton #5.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 - Spiny_Norman - 11-04-2024

Stanford now gets 4 in a row at home including one vs. Georgia Tech on Saturday. By RPI rankings, Stanford's matches vs. Miami (35) and Florida State (30) were the equivalent of a round of 32 NCAA match. Georgia Tech (19) will be a Sweet 16 match.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 - BobK - 11-04-2024

Like at Stanford we are seeing the volleyball type floors which take time to put down and take up. I would guess that’s why we aren’t playing in the real gyms

Thanks, Bob.  Makes sense.  Nevertheless ... if you're gonna field a team, give them a decent place to play.  (Someone review the Miami game and tell us if the Miami team seemed to actually use the low ceiling. Like in racquetball.)

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 - paloalto - 11-04-2024

I can't think of any way a home time can use a low ceiling to their advantage because if the ball touches the ceiling and goes over the net they lose the point.  Of course the home team has an advantage in being familiar playing in the venue.

During the livestream an announcer said it was a sellout crowd, something the program was not getting in previous years.  If volleyball continues its popularity at Miami it's possible they may move to the big gym for games in future years.
