That would be my vote, if it's the FSU game I'm recalling.

And the Rice game was hideous from the jump - no hope, no fun, just blech.  This one was better.

BTW, as soon as the batter secured a walk after being down 1-2, I had "a bad feeling about this. . ."

Great season, though.  Heads up!

The KZSU announcers were dropping hints that Beck was losing it toward the end.  I get that he's the ace, but if you're going to commit to a kitchen sink approach in order to win the game...you can't be afraid of yanking pitchers on short leashes.  Same with Mathews, who was replaced too late for my taste as well (though Palisch may not have fared much better as it turns out).

Sigh.  This was tough.  I hate snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.  Unforced errors.

One strike.

You gotta be F'ing kidding me. In his first year, they won the Pac, Second year was in a super, this year the CWS. YOU HAD YOUR DOUBTS?????? The one thing these players did mention is that playing to a crowd like it was, sorry but I have been to games at Sunken, and Stanford fans are either to uptight or too old to get into it. You look at MSU and they have a great atmosphere in their home yard. Hopefully more will now come and be a little more active in their support, rather than sitting on their hands sipping their wine!!!! Parents of the players are the only ones I saw getting into it!!!!!

Really????? the only thing that any armchair coach can say is that they were expecting his curveball! He started off their lead off hitter with a curve and he hit it into right to tie the game. If you know anything about hitting, low and inside is a left handers dream pitch be it straight or curve. And if you know it's coming......Well.

Yes we would have all wanted to see them get to the title best 2 out of 3, but I see this as a stepping stone and this will only help in recruiting as well! If you have played enough baseball, this is why you play the game. Just ask Ben McDonald, who seems to hate Stanford and any west coast ball. If you are asking who Ben is, well you don't know Stanford Baseball!!!!

“Oh, those bases on balls.”

Ugh, just as I thought I had begun the recovery from the “Reuben Mayes”… this nightmare.
Ouch, bad beat.

RE: Stanford Baseball - Papa John - 06-24-2021

I  was catching my flight home from Phoenix (third leg of the day) last night. I was on the plane and the flight attendant asked me to switch my phone to airplane mode just after Stanford recorded the first out in the bottom of the ninth. I was in a good mood for the next 90 minutes.

Still shocked, but this team went from 5-11 in 2020 to the CWS in 2021. That has to be one of the best one-season turnarounds in Stanford sports history. Men's basketball improved from 7-23 in 1992-93 to 17-11 in 1993-94, but that team lost in the first round of the NIT.
