During the livestream an announcer said it was a sellout crowd, something the program was not getting in previous years.  If volleyball continues its popularity at Miami it's possible they may move to the big gym for games in future years.

The main feature of playing a ball off the ceiling is surprise.  Opposing teams are simply not prepared for that.  Again, sheer speculation on my part.

Good to hear about the future possibilities.

I've been commenting Oglivie may be the best college libero in the country.  Well I found some objective metrics that helps in part to back it up. Here is a list of best passers posted today.

Changing topics:  Nebraska at Oregon tonight.  Does Oregon have any chance for an upset?

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 - BostonCard - 11-07-2024

Interesting, thanks for sharing PA.  Looks like Oglive's superpower is avoiding bad passes.  Fewer than 1 in every of her 50 passes can be characterized as "bad".  And when you have a good to great setter, avoiding bad passes, rather than delivering great ones, is the key.  The same poster had a very nice analysis showing that if you can muster at least a decent pass, the team's expected side out percentage will be quite high.

https://www.volleydork.com/post/if-shes-a-good-passer-why-doesnt-she-pass-good

The difference in expected side out percentage between a 2 and a 3 is pretty low, but the difference between a 0 and a 1 is brobdingnagian, so although Oglive's passing rating is merely good, by having the lowest error rate in the country (at least of the passers shown, and I suspect no one whose not on that top-25 would be any lower), she adds more expected points with every pass than anyone else (although the top 3 all add 0.07 points per pass, that's only with rounding; Oglive is at exactly .07, Bilnovic is at .069, and Mauch is .068).

That's a good post about passing efficiency BC.  Thanks.

Clemson at Stanford tonight 7:00pm PT on ACCNX.  Clemson is 0-12 in conference.  Their roster shows six players 6'2" or taller so height isn't the problem.

#16 Georgia Tech at Stanford on Saturday night.

Penn State at Wisconsin on Saturday 12:30pm PT on NBC.  WVB has come a long way to get a prime Saturday slot on NBC rather than a football game.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 - paloalto - 11-08-2024

If you are having trouble accessing the Clemson match from the Stanford website, go through the ESPN+ site.

So far Clemson showing why they are winless in conference.  Yu not dressed to play.

I was wondering if they would have enough time to install the Taraflex court with the MBB game ending at around 3 PM. I guess the answer is "no."

Heh, I didn't notice that! Duh.

Announcer trying mightily to make this game seem like it is exciting.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 - mbdude - 11-08-2024

blashov not dressed either; any word on redshirt?

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 - paloalto - 11-08-2024

Stanford pulling away now in the second set after being tied 12-12.

Miner makes a play that should be on Sports Center highlights.

Francis looking good.

Either Cawa is injured or she is in Hambly's doghouse for some reason.  If Cawa can't find her way onto the court in a match like this,  when is she going to get game experience at the college level?  Maybe Cawa isn't being groomed for a starting role in the future?  I don't know.

Hambly said he didn't want to say too much about it, just that she's not ready to play.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 - CompSci87 - 11-08-2024

Cawa in.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 - paloalto - 11-08-2024

Cawa gets in for a few plays toward the end of set 3.

Miner averages 14 assists per set.

So one can't blame Stanford's loss to Miami from playing on a wood floor.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 - TonyLima - 11-08-2024

Watching the match on replay. Third set was the Lizzie Andrew show.

Hambly has said something like it takes 24 hours for the taraflex floor to "settle"; you can't do a quick change over.
So it won't be used again this year, except for the NCAA tournament.

Taylor Yu also was not dressed to play tonight.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 - BobK - 11-09-2024

With Harvey hitting back row now less time for defense players plus Kurt serving with Yu out. Pringle playing less. No reflection on Cawa

But if you consider Cawa a possible starter next year either as DS or possibly Libero, it would be beneficial to give her some playing time in a match like the Clemson one; more than three points.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 - BobK - 11-09-2024

Big if with a top Libero coming in. Plus Pringle and Kirsch return.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 - paloalto - 11-09-2024

#16 Georgia Tech at Stanford tonight at 7:00pm PT on ACCNX.  Both teams at 10-3 in conference and 18-4 overall.  Stanford no losses at home.  GT one loss on the road and a nine game winning streak.

Winning this match will be helpful to Stanford for a #2 regional seed in the NCAA tournament.

Caught the end of the first set for PSU at Wisconsin, which Wisconsin won 25-23, in part due to a successful challenge by Sheffield.
Didn't see the rest, not sure what happened to PSU, but they lost -12 and -13.

When asked about Stanford being a top-4 seed last night, Wisconsin beating PSU was the first thing Hambly mentioned.
Well, after Stanford running the table from here out.  It helps, but obviously not a lock.
