Agreed! They’re now airing it tape-delayed as if it were live. Or else it is live and they leaked it beforehand. Either way, not great.

This will be a great test for whether a generational player can overcome mediocre coaching, a non-existent fanbase, and navigating a move to a new conference with a ton of highly undesirable and uninteresting away games. If she can overcome all that and turn USC into a top team, God bless her...

Congrats to her and USC. I kinda just had that feeling. Can’t fault a kid for wanting to stay home. Much rather USC than South Carolina. I don’t have a good feeling about Hidalgo either.

Before she and her family moved up to Chatsworth so Juju can attend the ritzy Sierra Canyon, let's not forget Juju lived in South Central LA, just an exit away from the USC campus. So I think this is a story of a kid truly staying home and perhaps explains her connection to SC over UCLA (but would love the details as to why the Bruins couldn't snag her, because man would that have been something).

If she wanted to stay close to home, I am surprised she didn't give more consideration to UCLA. For all the criticism of Cori Close's in-game coaching, she is a very good recruiter. If she had gone to UCLA, they'd have a loaded roster including Kiki Rice and her. (I don't think she and Kiki play the same position, so there wouldn't be a positional conflict?)

Even without WATKINS, both South Carolina and Stanford will be pre-season
Top 5 teams next season. However, if one of them gets WATKINS,
that team will easily be the pre-season Top favorite (along with UConn).
On the other hand, USC without WATKINS won't even be a Top 25 team
next season. However, with WATKINS, they probably become
a Top 15 team next season - definitely a boost of immense proportion
to a long stagnant program.

I don’t think Rice and Watkins would have wanted to play together. They are both big guards who want the ball in their hands at the end of games. And they both clearly want to be the #1 star of their respective programs. Stanford players tend to be more team first because you aren’t going to get a ton of minutes in blowout games to pad your stats. But you can still be a brobdingnagian star as Haley Jones has proven.

Rice is the third leading scorer for UCLA (11 ppg) behind Osborne and Bessoir and is the team leader in assists with 17 (34% of all of UCLA's assists), and has more assists than field goals. I don't see any evidence that, at least to date, Rice is going to be a ball hog. She might want to have the ball in her hands at the end of the game, but I could have seen her using it to set up Watkins for a play.
Given her comments when she committed about being the one to paving the way at UCLA (presumably to a championship), having a #1 wing along with her in the backcourt would have helped to get her there.

USC and UCLA, barring the UC Regents taking adverse action on UCLA's move, join the Big Ten conference 1 August 2024 after the current Pac-12 media agreement expires. So the teams will play in the Pac-12 for the 23/24 season.
