I just read Baggerly’s report on today’s game. Evidently, I was being too conservative with my hope of seeing him as the Giants catcher on Opening Day next year. Baggerly wrote that SF is considering moving him up to the big club at some point this season.

My hope is finding a guy who can who consistently produce major league-level results defensively and offensively.
This. Giants remain high on Bailey. He’s fine offensively as a LH hitter. Last year at Eugene.
RH. 61 ABs .131/.239/.213/.452 1 HR
LH. 206 AB. .252/.378/.451/.851. 11 HR.
FWIW he also finished strong after an awful start.
Needs to either improve RH or scrap switch hitting. He will get a good test at Richmond. That’s always been a tough league for hitters.
One thing that perhaps we all might agree on - catching position in SF is a mess right now. Wynns probably will be up with Perez hurt.

I'd love to be pleasantly surprised for him to have a Kirt Manwaring (.246/.311/.318/.629 with one Gold Glove) type of career. I'm just worried he turns into John Boccabella (.219/.267/.317/.584), although admittedly Boccabella threw out 41% of base stealers in his career.

If he becomes another Bill Freehan, the Giants will have struck catcher-drafting gold twice in three tries. Freehan was an 11 time all-star and a 5 time gold glove winner. Quite frankly, his non-selection to the HOF is a travesty.

Best thing that happened for the Giants franchise this weekend: Luis Matos 3-4 with a HR in Richmond’s season opener and the Squirrels even won the game!

Richmond swept a three game set from the Reading Fightin’ Phils.
Bailey went 3-7 in the series and Matos was 4-10. Hopefully it won’t be too long before Luciano joins the team.

That is a pitcher's league, all right. Richmond is second in team batting average with a .244 BA. and second in OBP at .375. They're fifth in ERA (2.35), though 2nd in WHIP (1.09) out of 12 teams. Very impressive. Incidentally, Joey Bart is also 3 for 7, and leading Sacto in BA.

I am looking for steady progress which can be defined, in part, as a solid K/BB ratio. Whether that would result in a call-up later this season would depend on how the team is doing. I would guess that his chances are better if the Giants are out of the race. Regardless, I don’t want to see him in SF until he is ready. The worst thing would be to put him on the SAC-SF shuttle…..

2) Two former big $ targets of the Giants are T2 for most HRs in major leagues (Arson Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Judge is #8 in OPS (1.193).
3) a number of former Giants are doing well: Jason Vosler (OPS 1.072), Evan Longoria (OPS 1.467), Andrew McCutchen (1.098), Matt Duffy (1.214)
4) Carlos Correa is ranked #21 among the shortstops in OPS (.492) and hitting .182 with 10 strikeouts in 33 ABs.

Duvall appears to be out with a broken wrist. Did anyone want Longo back? Good for Duffy. Correa's ankle is obviously bothering his hitting. . ..

Solid K/BB ratio and show ability to get deeper in games. Which in todays standards is 6 innings. He has to reduce his pitch count.
