RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 - paloalto - 11-09-2024

Stanford off to a good start in set 1 against Georgia Tech.

Stanford wins set one 25-9.   Francis on a blocking rampage.  Can Stanford play well for a complete match?

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 - mbdude - 11-09-2024

Tech had 9 points, 4 on service errors

The team looks like they had a make up party before the game. I like that sports and femininity can be combined. I wonder who their MUA.

Nonetheless the team is playing well. I wonder what would’ve been if Francis was this good last year.

wish Rubin would/could tipping so much

Wow blocking has really improved

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 - paloalto - 11-09-2024

Stanford wins set two 25-17 against GT.   Harvey playing better and more confident recently.

Pretty sure this qualifies as playing well for an entire match…

Yellow Jackets get stung by Stanford in Maples.

Yep.  Will be interesting to see how it goes at Georgia Tech later this month.

I heard Francis was trying for ACC Most Unique Hairstyle of the Week Award.

Was that really the #16 ranked team?

Side out% 82.5%.  More impressively is 57.5% points on serves.
0.542 hitting percentage.

13 blocks in 3 sets.   It was a very short 3 sets.
Only 5 aces tonight.  It was a very short 3 sets.

Kurt hit .833 (not a typo).
Francis hit .692 (not a typo).
Andrew hit .750 (not a typo).

The team hit over .500 (.542).  I don't think I've ever seen that against a high caliber opponent.  We didn't even do that against Clemson.

The team had 5 hitting errors, total; 9 service errors (OK, that wasn't great), a single receiving error, and 4 block errors.  An incredibly clean game.

We played very well, but GaTech doesn't hit nearly as hard as Lopez, e.g. of Miami.

Agree GT doesn’t have the firepower to hang with a top team.  Miami on an on day does.

Heck of a win though regardless.

My thoughts exactly.

Today's official NCAA RPI:  Stanford #5

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 - johnbar - 11-11-2024

New coaches poll:  Wisconsin leapfrogs Stanford, and PSU only falls to #4, pushing Stanford down to #7 after two wins.  Not how I would rank them.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 - paloalto - 11-11-2024

AVCA poll is meaningless to NCAA tournament selection committee so doesn't really matter much.  NCAA RPI carries some weight in the committee's decisions.  So does good losses and bad losses and unfortunately losing to unranked Miami in the latter stages of the season will not help Stanford's cause for a top seed.

Georgia Tech goes up by 1 and now rank 15 after being demolished by Stanford.  AVCA ranking is lame

I always wondered about coaches polls being like Russian judging (diving, ice skating, ...).  The outcome of the polls/judging affects your team so you uprank your team and downrank your strongest competitors.  The poor saps that don't employ that strategy wind up lower.

I don't know that the coaches do that, but there is a motive to do that.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball 2024 - BostonCard - 11-11-2024

Kami Miner won ACC setter of the week (for the fifth time this year), while Elena Oglivie won defensive player of the week (surprisingly, her first time).  Somehow, we've never had a player win offensive player of the week.

The good news is I don’t think those rankings matter much if at all for seeding; so it’s mostly just an in-season conversation piece.
