Last I heard is that he does not have a realistic possibility of attending Stanford.

Thanks Price and thus not really an offer

Looks from this read that we have a pretty strong shot at Winston:  http://ht.ly/2ZHeKZ

Re: Class of 2016 - TrumpCard - 06-09-2015

Anyone know if Stanford is offering Winston at LB or WR or whichever he prefers?

The comments at the end of that article are amazing. The majority of commenters in an Oregon paper who are Oregon fans comment that he should go to Stanford.  I have to respect Oregon fans for recognizing that a top notch football player who is very academically focused would be better off going to Stanford.

Re: Class of 2016 - TrumpCard - 06-09-2015

The second wave of offers this year has gone out to a group of recruits who are very highly regarded.  Hammond, Bisharat, Jones, and Winston are all consensus 4-star recruits.  And guys like Alves, Kemp, Quansah, and Eboh are still waiting for offers.  I wonder how many more elite recruits are waiting in the wings.  Some of them may be keeping their interest quiet unless and until they get an offer, just like Winston did.

My favorite comment in this article is from the author:

Quote:I have my own rankings for in-state players based on talking to coaches, seeing players in person, the offers they've received, etc. A number of coaches in the area provide feedback, but I haven't heard any (serious) complaints about my top 10.

Winston is the state's most coveted player and it's not close.

Breeze is the more college-ready player, but Winston has the higher upside. Not only is that my feeling, but that's what Central Catholic coach Steve Pyne felt as well.

Re: Class of 2016 - TrumpCard - 06-10-2015

Scout came out with a new Top 300 today.
http://www.scout.com/college/football/recruiting/story/1553803-the-updated-scout-300-for-2016
David Long got a brobdingnagian bump, all the way to #54.  He's now a unanimous Top 100 recruit with an average rank of ~70.  Stanford wants him as a WR who would take the top off of opposing defenses, though more scouts seem to project him as a lockdown CB.  Either way, I'd love to see him in cardinal and white.  All signs are pointing in that direction.

If you click the link, it shows a top 4 of UCLA, Stanford, Oregon, and Washington.  Let's give him a pass on the "bare with me" comment.

Maybe he knew the Cardboard would make him say "please 59er me" if he spelled it right.

Re: Class of 2016 - yvonne - 06-10-2015

I like it. The Michigan fan site was all atwitter when he was about to post the top five, then when he posted a top 3 and announced he was adding one more, they tweeted "UM still has a chance." I swear, they think every recruit wants to go there.

Re: Class of 2016 - TrumpCard - 06-11-2015

Here are the recruits who have Stanford in their Top 5 or higher.  I welcome corrections or additions.  The first 11 are 4-star recruits on Rivals.

Fehoko (Stanford is declared leader; 4.0 GPA; going on mission)
Long (Stanford is his "dream school" and a "no-brainer," but technically only on Top 10 list)
Williams ("Stanford will be tough to beat," but no published top list)
Butler (Stanford, kal, and UW are top 3; 100% crystal ball says Stanford; 4+ GPA)
Hamilton (Stanford and Michigan in top 2)
D. Robertson (Stanford first among top three with UGA and Bama; visit planned; 3.2 GPA)
Rand (Hulk says Stanford leads if Rand can pass admissions, but not confirmed by public statement from Rand)
Simms (Stanford is his "dream school," but no published top list; 3.45 GPA)
Winston (Stanford, Oregon, UCLA, in top 3, UW apparently 4th)
J. Jones (Stanford in top 3 after recent offer, but Michigan leads)
R. Robinson (says Stanford in top 3, but no published top list; 4+ GPA)
Okeke (Stanford, UDFG, and Tenn in top 3)
Ulloa (Stanford in top 5 with ASU, Michigan St., Vandy, and UDFG)
Speights (Stanford in top 5 with Az, Tenn, Vandy, and TAMU)

The team is already set at QB and TE.  This list seems to have enough DBs and LBs to meet the team's needs, especially when you consider that additional elite guys like Pryts and McCulloch have the grades to get into Stanford and appear to have some interest.  The RB situation is unclear, but I wouldn't be surprised if the staff stood pat with Bisharat in the event the other current offers don't pan out.  There don't seem to be enough offers to OLs, DLs, and WRs with high interest though.  Soon after the camp scheduled to occur next week, I expect to see at least one offer at each of those positions, plus an offer to a FB and a P/K.  I wonder whether Alves and Kemp are in play.  They would fill important needs and seemed to have interest in Stanford.  I am surprised to say it, but there may not be room for Quansah or Eboh, both of whom seem like really promising recruits with interest in Stanford.

Another reason not to stand pat w/ Bisharat at RB - Redrum - 06-12-2015

He is going to have to kick *** academically this last semester  and have some sort of tailwind to carry him through admissions.

Re: Class of 2016 - TrumpCard - 06-12-2015

I doubt two high-caliber big backs would want to be in the same recruiting class anyway.  With Bisharat committed, a guy like Quansah is not likely to jump on board as well.  As long as Quansah is already doing what it takes to get into Stanford, he can commit elsewhere and decide whether to switch to Stanford if and when Bisharat gets dinged.  The staff just needs to hope that it can get a high-caliber back like Quansah to take 2 AP classes in the hope that room opens up at the inn.  But putting out that additional offer now would not seem to have much upside.

I'm not sure I agree. We've had multiple 4* backs (granted, not the "big backs" that you specify) in the same recruiting class in the past: Remound Wright and Kelsey Young; Stepfan Taylor and Tyler Gaffney.  I think smart recruits understand the unpredictability of recruiting as well as we do, or better: the failure of some highly ranked recruits to develop as expected, the possibility of injuries shaping, or shortening, a career, etc.  It just seems to me that these factors, combined with the opportunity for a Stanford education, would lead a high-quality young student-athlete take on the challenge of entering in the same class as another player of the same position, if they really wanted the Stanford experience. This is particularly true when you consider that most of the players of this quality thrive on competition.

Now Shaw and the coaches may look at how their class is shaping up and feel that they only have room for one big running back, or they may not value a particular player as highly as the recruiting services.  But that's a different issue.

Re: Class of 2016 - TrumpCard - 06-14-2015

These are some impressive numbers.

Re: Class of 2016 - washingtonismoney - 06-14-2015

Serious disparity in his shuttle numbers -- that's a 4.3 flat on his second run, right?

EDIT: not sure where ESPN gets these testing numbers for Fehoko -- http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/combine/_/id/201861/simi-fehoko -- but these testing results are an improvement in most metrics.

Re: Class of 2016 - TrumpCard - 06-14-2015

BobK can probably speak to the disparity in times.

The speed that he showed today isn't anomalous though.  It validates the player evaluations from the 7-on-7 tournaments.  Fehoko is now a unanimous 4-star recruit, and rightly so.

Certainly not anomalous in context from the testing results from ESPN, so you're right there. But it did strike me as a bit unusual to see such variance between Fehoko's first run (4.43) and second (4.3?). But I'll defer to expertise.
