Apart from Bailey do we see USC firing of Helton impacting any recruits that are looking Stanford and aforementioned and or potential decommits from USC that could be in play for the good guys?

Admittedly the firing should help em in medium/long term but perhaps some recruiting relationships will be negatively impacted for this cycle...

Doesn't seem like too many Cardinal targets ended up down the road in LA...

I don't think so. Only one Trojan commit with a Stanford offer this cycle.

Wishful thinking, but maybe a grad transfer?

EDIT: After looking at the Trojan roster, not many seniors getting serious PT who had Stanford offers out of HS. The one senior with a 3.5 GPA is a backup guard.

It's looking like Bailey, Hagen, and Reuben (who just set an OV on 10/2) are the primary remaining targets.

Akim Sledge, who reported a Stanford offer and put Stanford in his top-5 back in February, appears to be off the board.  Despite reporting a number of P5 conference offers, 247 reports that he committed to Campbell.  I had not heard of the school and found the decision a little surprising, but then again, a lot stranger things have happened in the last 18 months.  Maybe Sledge will be a candidate to transfer at some point, or maybe this is just the best decision for him.  Stanford already has 4 DBs committed for 2022 anyway (plus Edwards returning), so this is not the worst of recruiting losses.  Some reportedly were recruiting him at WR, however, and he might have been a nice addition there if Hagen or Reuben went elsewhere.  

Selah Brown has been out with a leg injury, and I've heard nothing recently connecting him to Stanford.  But he reports a 3.71 gpa and has NW on his short list, so he does appear to be viable academically if he were to decide he wanted to come out west.

Carson Tabaracci is playing RB almost exclusively for his HS team out of necessity, but he remains a solid LB recruit and does report a 3.979 gpa (quite precise, right?).  I just haven't seen anything indicating that Stanford is doing well in this recruitment.

Look at Sledge's rating and I think it's clear that the FBS schools recruiting him cooled on him, causing him to commit to a FCS school.

That could be the case. I also note that several of Stanford’s commits have seen a bit of a ratings bump in the last month.  Maikkula, Ayomanor, and Daniels all up about 200 spots in the 247 composite.

Joshua Thompson is up 100 spots as well.

Eventually 247 will realize Pat Caughey is a DL (and every P5 offer was for defense), not a TE. Eventually.

I hadn't checked in a while, and 247sports has Stanford's class, with 18 commits, as #2 in conference and #13 nationally. Right behind us in conference is USC with only 10 commits. USC is usually a strong closer, but I'm not so sure that will happen this year unless they find their coach before December 18.

But UCLA has only 11 commits, and I have to think they are going to land some more 4-star players.

Cody Hagen is averaging almost 7 catches and 140 yards per game through 6 undefeated games against pretty decent competition. The WR position is a little thin in Stanford’s ‘22 recruiting class, and he’d be a great addition, especially since no one else in the class can match his speed.

I don't think Phogge is the plugged-into-recruiting type, but he is the thread drift type. (I'm not keen on that in recruiting threads.)

Info re: Hagen, he was recently offered by Michigan but didn't go to their big recruiting weekend.

Given the dire DL situation right now, I would absolutely take another in this class.

Sure, but which other DL who's worth taking?  Selah Brown would be nice, but is he a real possibility, or is he set on staying close to home?  As I see it from this cloudy perch, the best DL recruit would be Pakola.  After that, motivating Keneley to add some more good weight.

Sure, but which other DL who's worth taking?  Selah Brown would be nice, but is he a real possibility, or is he set on staying close to home?  As I see it from this cloudy perch, the best DL recruit would be Pakola.  After that, motivating Keneley to add some more good weight.

AFAIK, Brown has been off the board for months. This is more for the health of the pipeline and the position itself in a couple years, not necessarily now. I'm very pro-recruiting higher numbers in the trenches. I'd want around 10 on a given team so you can comfortably rotate 5-6ish without too much drop-off (unless there is a stud, of course). The trenches are positions that get better with old man strength, so ideally most of those 5-6 would be juniors/seniors with a roughly equal number of younger guys waiting in the wings.

If it were up to me, the best DL recruit would be a different coach, then Pakola. In that order.

I agree. Need to raise the ante on numbers. For 2022 can't rely on the recruiting service listings. Need to a find a player committed elsewhere in a program likely going through a coaching change or a player committed to a lower level program that is having a stellar senior year. Much less likely is to find an under recruited player who has not yet committed but is having a breakout year.

Seems like there’s been okay volume at DL for the last couple of years. Phillips, Keneley, Berzins, Armitage, Buckey, Franklin, Cooper, Rowell. Maybe some of those were walk on, but are those walk on players much worse than who’s currently available and academically qualified at DL?  Maybe you’re referring specifically to NT. If so, then I agree in principle, but again, I don’t know of any qualified and worth taking.

Keneley is an OLB. Berzins is a walk-on offensive lineman. Cooper will be an OLB/Edge for us. Pat Caughey is a DL that you're missing - 247 is still off the boat here. Methinks you're giving them too serious of credence based on this and some of your other posts. 

I don't really care about NT or DL designations straight from HS. (True frosh DL rarely, if ever, make a serious impact anyways.) Can they get up to 290+ in a year or 2? Great. Sign 'em. Harrison Phillips was 260 when he arrived on campus.
