Hodel & York made to the quarterfinals, but lost, so finished tied for 5th.

In Santa Monica, Kate Reilly and Emmy Sharp finished second at CBVA Open.

Hodel & York were the #1 seed in the Oshkosh AVP "tour" event, but ended tied for 9th.
Charlie Ekstrom and her partner (Megan Gebhard) tied for 5th.

Incoming freshman Ruby Sorra continues to compete on the Canadian BVB circuit, though she did not medal in the Vancouver Open.

I think Line Andersson would be better suited to focus solely on beach vb at Stanford.  With the three indoor incoming freshmen pin hitters I figure Anderson is sixth on the depth chart at the OH position.

Andersson is still on the indoor roster so most likely she will stick it out playing indoors.

I agree, and perhaps that is part of the reason she went home rather than go on the European tour with the indoor team.  I kind of expected her to drop indoors, but I guess not yet.

Kate Reilly took second place at the CBVA Manhattan Beach Open Saturday.  Emmy Sharp tied for 9th in the same event.

Stanford beach players remain busy in CBVA events in SoCal.
Kate Reilly (with Jessica Smith) tied for 3rd at Manhattan Beach Saturday (7/29), in a very deep tournament.
Camdyn Doucet tied for 9th at the same event.  Maddi Kriz, Emmy Sharp, and the team of Emma Morris & Kelly Belardi tied for 17ths.
Ashley Vincent and Charlie Ekstrom each got a 33rd.

On 7/23 at a Santa Monica open, Belardi (with Piper Ferch) took 1st; Taylor Wilson (with Samaya Morin) took 2nd; and Ivanna Rivera (with Susana Torres García) tied for 3rd.  All earned AAA ratings.  Camdyn Doucet and Emma Morris teamed for this, earning a 5th (AA).

Xolani Hodel (with Kahlee York) will be playing at the AVP Atlanta this weekend.

I am considering going to the Manhattan Beach Open in mid-August, though it's looking less likely right now.

Xolani Hodel (with Kahlee York), #16 seed at AVP Atlanta.  Put up a good fight in the first match against the #1 seed (Cheng/Hughes), but lost 21-19, 22-20.  Then lost to the #8 seed, so end up tied for 13th.

Incoming freshmen Brooke Rockwell and Chloe Hoffman won the CBVA Santa Monica Open yesterday.

Another freshman Clara Stowell paired with sophomore Ashley Vincent to tie for 3rd place.  All four earned AAA ratings.

Several other Stanford players and alumna there also:  Charlie Eckstom (9th); Taylor Wilson & Camdyn Doucet (13th); Gabriela Gubbins (13th); Emma Morris (21st).

Daria Gusarova will be one half of the pair of women representing Cyprus at the European U20 Beach VB championship in Riga, Latvia, starting Thursday.

24 players on the roster.  That's got to be one of the biggest rosters in DI beach volleyball.  If there's a NCAA limit to the number of players traveling on a beach roster to road matches, Stanford has to be considerably past it.

Gusarova & Siapani (Cyprus) knocked off Moldova and Lithuania to make the main draw in the CEV U23 championship.
Pool play tomorrow.

In Riga, Gusarova & Siapani (seeded #31) split their first two pool matches.  They upset #2 Ukraine, but lost to #15 Sweden.

Two Stanford players made it through the qualifier into the main draw at Manhattan Beach.
Kate Reilly (playing with Allison Hansen) went 3-0, as did Clara Stowell (playing with Erin Inskeep).

Xolani Hodel (playing with Delaynie Maple [USC]) got a first-round bye, but lost in the second round to the Nourse twins.
Alumna Charlie Ekstrom (& Skylar Germann) went 1-1 after a first-round bye.
And alums/USC grad-transfers Sunny Villapando and Maddi kriz teamed up, and also went 1-1.

The main draw starts tomorrow at 9am, and includes Carly Wopat.

Gusarova & Siapani went 2-1 in pool play, getting third place (three teams tied at 2-1, and they had the worst set ratio of 4-4).  They won their first winner's bracket match and lost their second (to #3 Netherlands).  Finishing with a 17th, I think (though there seem to be some play-offs for the "losers").

Not much success at the MBO for Stanford.  Reilly, Stowell, and Wopat all went 0-2.  Carly Wopat was particularly unlucky:  seeded #17, they lost a close two-set match to the #16 team.  Unfortunately, they then ran into the #1 seeds, who had been upset by #32.

Correction, Gusarova & Siapani finished 9th in the European U20 championship (seeded #31).  They won their final placement match over Slovenia.

In Toronto, Ruby Sorra (incoming freshman) and partner Emma Glagau are in the Canadian U20 National Championship.  There are only a total of six teams in this tournament, currently in pool play.

Sorra & Glagau won the Canadian U20 championship, and will represent Canada in the U21 World Championship tournament (in Thailand in November).

The last two years they represented Canada in the FIVB U19 Championships, coming in tied for 5th, and 3rd.

Our other Canadian recruit (entering 2024), Ofure Odigie (I misspelled her name in a previous post) won the Canadian U17 championship.  She partnered with Jasmine Ellison; there were 22 teams in this competition.
