And it's a final.  Stanford takes the game and the series.

Here's Moran's homer to put us up 7-4

RE: Stanford Baseball 2025/26 - Papa John - 05-12-2026

Coach Esquer earned his 301st win tonight (Tuesday) vs Saint Mary's in Stanford's final home game of the season. Stanford entered the top of the 9th with a 7-3 lead and almost choked it away. But a win is a win, even if it's a 7-6 squeaker vs the #137 RPI-ranked team.

Regular season ends @ Cal x 3, Thursday-Saturday. Cal's undergraduate commencement is Saturday at 10:30 am and the baseball game is at 3:05 pm, but I have to think the graduating Cal players will skip commencement, especially since it's their Senior Day. I don't think I've ever seen that kind of scheduling, but then again I've only attended quarter-system schools.

Seeds 5-8 get a first-round bye in next week's ACC tournament in Charlotte, NC. Stanford, at 12-15 in the conference, is sitting all alone in 10th place right now, but there's a three-way tie for 7th place at 13-14. Stanford actually has the head-to-head advantage over two of those teams, NC State (vs UNC this weekend) and Va Tech (vs Clemson). The Cardinal hasn't played Virginia (@ Louisville), the remaining team tied for 7th.

Even if Stanford gets the first-round bye, they would still need to win 4 games in 5 days to get the automatic NCAA bid. Very slim chance of that happening, but it's higher than winning 5 games in 6 days.

RE: Stanford Baseball 2025/26 - JJJ - 05-14-2026

Stanford at Cal has started.
With bases loaded, their pitcher walks Sasaki and hits Jeon, so we’re up 2-0.
New pitcher coming in.

That first inning was apparently 2 HBP, 3 BB, and one hit.
We gave up a run B1.
Now 4-1 starting T2.

Stanford wins 7-6, I think, with Ketelson (is that the name?) throwing out the tying run at the plate after a single to left. I saw this on KRON 4 Sports with Scott Reiss 11:00 TO 11:30 PM. It's an ok show, if you are interested, often including a local college sport.

That is, indeed, the correct spelling.  I've also posted the entire game on my Youtube channel.  And it was a heck of a throw. Runner was out by 20 feet.

Cool pregame moment when the Jeon brothers exchanged the lineup cards. #housedivided
(Apparently, Kevin Jeon is a freshman who is injured this year and was on crutches.)

RE: Stanford Baseball 2025/26 - JJJ - 05-15-2026

We need a run T9 to tie. One out and man on second.

RE: Stanford Baseball 2025/26 - BobK - 05-15-2026

Sadly a 4-3 loss

RE: Stanford Baseball 2025/26 - JJJ - 05-15-2026

And we lose 4-3 with 2 men on B9.
Let’s bounce back tomorrow!

RE: Stanford Baseball 2025/26 - Madera86 - 05-16-2026

Curious if there is a stat for runners left on base over a season. Seems like our pitchers get in trouble often, but at least lately, the staff has been able to get out of trouble often as well.

Did I really hear that? Bottom 4 2 outs Roxy Bernstein called the 3b-SS gap the “5.5 hole.”

I must’ve missed that part, but I did hear him say that if Stanford wins today, we’re the 8th seed in the ACC tourney and get a bye, but if we lose, we’re 12th and play Cal on Tuesday…

Just as Cal takes a 2–1 lead.

I got to add something from the announcers: “that’s about 900 feet of foul balls in this at bat“ Sasaki of course.

Bright side: even more baseball! (Yeah, I know, …)

The 5.5 hole terminology was popularized in the 90s by Tony Gwynn as that was his favorite place to get base hits.

Also a terrible send by the 3rd base coach. LFer had the ball in his throwing hand before the runner even hit 3rd base.
