If we’re looking beyond ‘22, then the 1-DL classes in 2018 and 2019 (which were very unfortunate) aren’t that relevant. Most football players don’t stick around beyond 4 years anyway. Per your post, the DLs since ‘20 include Phillips, Armitage, Franklin, Buckey, Rowell, and Caughey. I’d want more, but 6 is not an exceedingly low number for 3 years. The dire depth the team has now arises from 3 years (‘18-‘20) with 1 DL each, and one of those 3 is ineligible. So the question is whether the team wants to spend more valuable scholarships on DLs like Buckey, who had zero P5 offers besides Stanford. Those offers can work out well, but there is a cost to making them.

Shaw has never used all 85 available scholarships, so my answer will always be yes to ensuring the 2nd-3rd most important position on the entire field has adequate depth. That said, I think we can do better than a zero P5 offer DL in this class. (Any further elaborating at this point would be paywall territory.) If not, fire Reynolds and take another 2-3 P5-level recruits in 2023 - there should never be just 1 in a class again after what we've seen. Buckey's younger brother has a 4.0 and offers from Cal and Michigan.

Don’t be too hard on him. I was pretty surprised that Stanford won too. The article says U$C and Stanford are top 2. I tend to agree with your inference that he’s probably leaning elsewhere, but I wouldn’t count Stanford out. Mater Dei has a few alumns who’ve recently attended Stanford. Osiris, C-Rob, Bright.

Within the last day, there were a bunch of crystal balls for Cody Hagen to BYU. I assume these will end up being accurate. If so, big loss for Stanford as he was by far the fastest player in my aspirational class. Mudia Reuben doesn't have that level of speed, but he'd at least help with a pretty sparce group of WRs in the last couple of classes. There's a new CBall for him to Stanford. After a slow start to the year, he's gone for 281 yards on 23 ypc and 3 TDs in the last 3 weeks.

I just noted some stats from last weekend's HS games. Ashton Daniels was 7-7, 162 yds, 2 TDs in a clinic against an overmatched opponent. Daniels is now averaging 7-11 for 101 yards, 1 TD, and 0.4 INT, plus 12 yards rushing over his 5 games this year. Those are some hairraising stats for the QB commit at the university soon to be formerly known as QBU.

Mudia Reuben had a nice game with 164 yards and 2 TDs. He’s on an upward trajectory since the beginning of the season.

Ashton Daniels had a short game again last week. 5 for 5, 2 TDs and 132 yards. the TD were 44 and 51 yards. Buford won 58-0.

Cal DL commit Jaxson Moi was at the Oregon-Stanford game. He has offers from all these schools, plus USC, UCLA, Michigan, among others.
Was he just taking in the game, or contemplating abandoning the (sinking) Cal ship? And most importantly for y'all's concern, has he applied to Stanford and is he taking 2 AP classes?

Taking photos with recruits has no bearing on if he signs with Stanford. Only an application to the school and taking 2 AP classes matters, which is why I asked the question.
Anyone reading this knows Jaxson Moi plays a position of need. And I'm not interested in lame Cal weenie jokes.

Everybody knows that most recruits want a place with great looking girls, a public golf course right across the street that hosted the 2020 PGA, a world class restaurant two minutes away and a campus located in the best city in the world. But they don’t matriculate because there is no football.

Stanford currently has two former Cal commits on the roster; Manley and Archer both of whom are in the same class.
