Thomas Hicks won the 1904 Olympic marathon in a time of 3:28:53. What measures did he take that would be illegal today? Hicks was not the first runner to arrive at the finish line. Why was Fred Lorz (winner of the 1905 Boston marathon) disqualified? You will notice that the time of the marathon was in the range of what a reasonably fit amateur can do right now. In addition, only 14 of the 32 entrants finished. Why?

Pitcher, no All Star....Virgil Trucks, Jerry Koosman, Danny Darwin, Jamie Moyer, Bartolo Colon?
Hard enough but the others are harder.
Fred Lorz caught a trolley. Thomas Hicks blood doped, snuffed a line, cut corners.

Close. Lorz got into a car after cramping at the 9 mile mark, but the car broke down 2 miles from the finish line, so he jogged the last two mile.
Hicks was given strychnine and brandy on the course, and was carried over the finish line by his trainers.

Where did the MLB LA angels play before the Anaheim stadium was built ? The correct name please
RE: Sports trivia thread -
Phogge - 04-16-2021
Dodger Stadium for one. I saw Gene Conley of the Red Sox beat the Angels in '62 or '63. Did they play first at Wrigley Field or Gilmore field?

They played at Wrigley Field. I saw them play the Yankees there in 1961.

Mostly yes except the Angels called it Chavez Ravine Stadium
RE: Sports trivia thread -
Phogge - 04-17-2021
LAPD SWAT responded to the Ravine with dozers primed to level the lot. Two families wouldn't move...or so the story goes. When we entered the stadium it said "Dodger." Chavez Ravine my azz. Still a very nice place to watch a game and by the seventh inning you had plenty of room.

Also Dirty Al the first San Francisco home grown product to make the big club. Great teammate in semi pro, with three on field brawls in our summer together all instigated by Gallagher.
Hint: two pitchers, one position player.
