There's always a risk of ascertainment bias when talking about recruiting misses. If Ben Burr Kirven wound up being a non-contributor, we would never talk about how Shaw wisely disregarded the local high school staff with ties to Stanford. Ironically, that year we wound up recruiting Mustafa Branch, from UW's back yard. Obviously Kirven has had a better career trajectory than Branch so it counts as a recruiting "miss". However, this isn't one of those things that was immediately obvious at the time. Both Branch and Kirven were three star recruits (Kirven was slightly more highly rated at #723 per 24/7 versus #942 for Branch), and both had similar recruiting profiles (UW beat out Arizona, ASU, and Utah plus some G5 teams for BBK, while Stanford beat out Colorado, Duke, NW, OSU and WSU for Branch). Ben Kirven didn't become a starter until his Junior year and obviously is having a hell of a season this year, while Branch has been a back-up the his entire career. But predicting these things from high school tape and football camps is an inexact science.
The bigger issue is not whether the staff recruited BBK or MB in 2015; it's that they recruited 0 ILB in 2016 and 0 ILB in 2017, and our 2 2018 commits (Jacob Magnum-Ferrar and Ricky Miezan) are not ready to play as freshman, so now the only freshman or sophomore in the two-deep is a converted safety.

On the gostanford.com roster, I counted 102 names, obviously including walk-ons and some who may not be on the team at this point.
There are 25 guys listed as either OL or DL. There are also 3 long snappers.
If only there was a one-page resource that listed that information - positions and years and numbers of scholarships... It would be so handy.
