RE: Baseball Super Regional - Hulk01 - 06-08-2019

Vandy's pitching staff, which is merely good, got exposed.

Superb pitching in the Michigan-UCLA game.

Losses can happen, but it is shocking to see Vandy gave up 18 in Game 1.

I'm not surprised - he's our top guy.
Hope his arm is lively.

Pitching in that game wasn't good. 23 hits given up (both teams) is one thing, but 15 walks between the two teams is worse: 7 given up by Vandy, 8 by Duke.

Corbin essentially pulled a Batesole and let a couple of his second tier bullpen arms take one for the team after the game got out of reach.

Always thought the 2PM local time start was really there to allow Miss State the largest possible window to host the game whenever the thunderstorms would permit.  Seemed likely for a few days that the 7PM local start would be very promising, but much harder to push that earlier if the storms suddenly became more likely in the evening hours.  So best to leave it early and then delay it as required.

As it stands, just a typical June day in the South.

If this was in California the rain and lightning would scare away the masses for the rest of the day, but I am confident the place will be packed once the lightning is far enough away to allow the fans in the stands.

The locals seem to be very frustrated based on Twitter replies to @HailStateBB. Apparently it’s not raining in Starkville now but is scheduled to rain this evening. Maybe our visiting friends can enlighten us on the situation down there.

Why is that a Batesole?

That's the FSU head coach. They were up 2 in the 3rd game when we came up to bat. He made a pitching change near the start of the inning. Our boys proceeded to pound that pitcher hit after hit. Their coach left him in, nobody warming up, and we ended up scoring 6 runs in the inning (the winning runs). Everyone, except him, thought he left the pitcher in too long, and it cost him the game.

That seemed to be Fresno State’s strategy in our game versus them on Sunday night. Leave a pitcher in the game even when he’s clearly struggling so as to save the bullpen for the next game.

Louisville punched first ticket to Omaha.  Smoked the ECU Pirates 14-1 and 12-0.

OK

But, that was the final game so he wasn’t saving the bullpen for anything.
And Larson had been their prime long relief guy all season, certainly not the bottom of their bullpen.

RE: Baseball Super Regional - Stanford2020 - 06-08-2019

Off to a good start in a game where every run will matter.

RE: Baseball Super Regional - BostonCard - 06-08-2019

Daschbach sac fly brings in Handley and we are up 1-0 in the top of the first.

BC

Unfortunately that’s all we get, as we strand men on second and third.

RE: Baseball Super Regional - BobK - 06-08-2019

Daschbach actually hit it over the fence and great catch my the Mississippi State CF. So very close

RE: Baseball Super Regional - Stanford2020 - 06-08-2019

Mississippi State out of challenges five outs into the game.

RE: Baseball Super Regional - Stanford2020 - 06-08-2019

Rough 3rd as the swings look ugly in the top and a pair of doubles plate two in the bottom. Down 3-1 going to the 4th.

RE: Baseball Super Regional - StanfordMatt - 06-08-2019

Not taking anything away from MSU but this home field advantage is definitely worth several runs. Our players are rattled and this game is quickly getting away from us. Already 6-1 and still in the 4th.

This is why getting one of the top 8 seeds was so critical.

RE: Baseball Super Regional - JJJ - 06-08-2019

I watched Auburn flip a game around in the 8th earlier today. This is college baseball. It ain't over 'til it's over!
