I disagree. Coaches know far well in advance if a student is going to make it past admissions. For all we know, they stopped recruiting her during the summer because of her grades. Not saying it isn't likely, but admissions plays a factor all throughout the recruiting process.

RE: Recruiting:Women’s Volleyball - BobK - 08-24-2020

Thank you Saki. Admissions is with the coaches always until one applies. Even then I know of a case or two the app was not sent to admissions because it wouldn’t pass.

In football admissions could mean no I won’t be taking AP classes and that ends that.
Admissions is a catch all phrase

That's what I meant by "But they would know what it would have taken to get in, and they might not have wanted to take that on."  Most class of 2022 students have one semester of useable grades (many schools went to P/F for the second semester of last year, and even for those that didn't the grades are hard to interpret) and no test scores.  Obviously one semester is enough to torpedo ones chances with C's and D's, but more likely they aren't yet deterministic.  The message from our coaches might be something along the lines of "your grades are going to need to improve in order to get in" and the athlete saying "I don't think I can do that".  You can call that an admissions casualty if you like, but given that we've had cases of students being told that and jumping through the requisite hoops, it's more a question of whether the juice is worth the squeeze for the athlete.  I wish it universally were, but alas, here we are.

Article title:

“Kennedi Orr, the nation's top 2021 recruit, to join Nebraska volleyball team in time for potential spring season.”

Nebraska also has the nation’s #2, and #3 recruits.  They may also join the Nebraska team in January for the spring semester.   This spring won’t count against their eligibility so they will be “freshmen” in fall 2021.

RE: Recruiting:Women’s Volleyball - BobK - 08-29-2020

Well we have more room. So on the Zoom the other night, Hambly mentioned three upperclass women. Then by name. No Formico. And now Formico off the roster. Did she or maybe she is graduating early?

RE: Recruiting:Women’s Volleyball - oldalum - 08-29-2020

wow, we're down to just 2 players left from our rotation last year. Will be a new team.

RE: Recruiting:Women’s Volleyball - Softball Fan - 08-29-2020

Having these women practice through Thanksgiving and then start practice again in January with no assurance there will be a spring season is asking a lot.  IMO there is at best a 50/50 chance of a spring season.  I expect a continuation of peaks and valleys in Covid-19 with no real impact from the vaccine until the middle of next year.

So will it be McClure or Oglivie at libero.  I don't think Lougeay will be ready.

RE: Recruiting:Women’s Volleyball - BobK - 08-29-2020

In the Zoom on Tuesday Hambly made it very clear that Oglivie is the Libero.

I don't believe practice will continue long, and if the season starts early March practice will start early Feb.

Of course like all sports teams practice most of the year.

https://prepvolleyball.com/articles/club-articles/college-commitments/its-stanford-for-sami-francis-a-top-2021-recruit/428003

"After keeping her various recruiting options under wraps, Sami Francis has decided on Stanford."

It sounds to me like Francis was admitted but didn't make up her mind immediately about committing to Stanford.

RE: Recruiting:Women’s Volleyball - BobK - 09-08-2020

Grayce Olson just committed to Ucla.
So we are down to Elia Rubin #14 same school as Keefe. Unless a surprise

2023 looks very good but so far away

I listened to the podcast. Nothing about the future.
Good thoughts on Denise

RE: Recruiting:Women’s Volleyball - BobK - 09-15-2020

So recruiting 2022 brings an interesting thought very much rumor in my mind

An OH hope Rubin
A Setter. Hard to believe plus the top 10 are committed. Leaves one possibility:)

One of the names mentioned is Elia Rubin (2022 OH out of LA).  Listed as a preseason all-American here.

PS, Bob, what are your thoughts of this 2023: https://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/mele-corral-blagojevich/cgOtw9C9EemAzfp8ouYFiw/default.htm

She's the only 2023 in the pre-season All-America team.  From the description:

Quote:A freshman as six-rotation player on a Top 10 team must truly be special. And she was. Corral-Blagojevich posted nearly 400 kills with 126 aces while playing all but 10 sets for the Sea Hawks. Coach Tommy Chaffins praised her ability to not only swing the hammer, but understand what the defense was giving and adjust on the fly.

RE: Recruiting:Women’s Volleyball - BobK - 09-15-2020

According to those you think they know or maybe they do she is very high on Stanford. Good find B

In can’t believe it BC I have a typo. The outside hitter many think would be Elia Rubin. I corrected my post above. We have talked about Rubin before

As to setter I can only think of one. Which makes setter hard to believe when we will have two next season both top 5 out of HS

RE: Recruiting:Women’s Volleyball - BostonCard - 09-15-2020

The endless Stanford volleytalk thread is a goldmine if you are willing to wade through over 1000 pages to find what you are looking for.

https://volleytalk.proboards.com/thread/36286/future-stanford

The ultimate irony is that the first post in that thread was this:

Quote:With their loss against USC yesterday in the Regional finals, their 3 great seniors (Klineman, Lichtman and Ailes) will leave The Farm without any championship ring.

How will Stanford look like in the coming years without the 3 great players plus the 3rd best recruiting class not living up to the expectation, Injury-prone upperclassmen, and a debacle in 2011 recruitment?

Not looking good, I believe :(

It wasn't great for the first half of the 2010's, but we've won three out of the last four National Titles.  The future turned out to be much better than we had feared.

RE: Recruiting:Women’s Volleyball - BobK - 09-15-2020

Here are 2023's I've seen mentioned with their last ranking which was recent.

2. Maggie Mendelson
5. Julia Blyaskov
13. Jordyn Harvey
16. Mele Corral-Blagojevich
26. Laney Choboy

Mendleson has been followed by Stanford Women's Basketball for some time. She's 6-5.

RE: Recruiting:Women’s Volleyball - Softball Fan - 09-16-2020

Thanks for those names all in one place.  I'm going to check out a video of each one of them because there is no live volleyball going on.   All a WVB fan can do right now is think about the future.

https://www.ncaa.org/about/resources/media-center/news/di-council-approves-moving-fall-championships-spring

Regular season can start January 22. NCAA tournament scheduled for April with 16 at large teams.  That probably means 10 from B1G and PAC-12 combined and 6 from the other conferences.  Some fans are going to be mad about that.
