I also saw a bunch of those momentum pushes and shoves that often sent our players flying out of bounds or under the basket and out of position. At least a half dozen instances were notable and at the time I was wondering why they were not called as fouls and whether it was a team effort (I think) or just one or two players trying to be opportunistic. Lacie, Cam and Haley were among those who were victims of some of the less subtle efforts.

HURRAH! So relieved about Williams.
On the other mystery about why UCLA's Aussies can't be here, the restriction applies only to new students and only to students coming to a campus that is entirely online. Some universities--and I presume Stanford among them--have kept a minuscule number of in-person classes they can send their foreign students to (they only need one in each student's schedule) so as to evade the restriction.
Apparently UCLA would not play the evasion game and its frosh from out of country are stuck at home.
The new policy reasons is predicated on the assumption that there is no need for a foreign student to journey to the US to attend college if everything is online. (And I have had some foreign students in my classes--the one from Japan had to stay up to 1am every day to be in my synchronous course.)
Now, if you want to know the reason for this terrible policy, I would have to get into politics, which is not appropriate for this board. I think the policy is terrible, and the more you know about it the worse it seems.

Just finished watching the replay of the game (once wasn’t enough in this protracted season). I noticed some marginal play by UCLA, but it didn’t compare to the physical street brawls we played in LA a few years back. Yesterday, post Lauryn Miller got caught for a push in the back, and Natalie Chou got away with a defensive undercut under the basket, probably unintended (Chou plays hard, but not dirty). And yes, there were aggressive, yet subtle, pushes and shoves that would have gone unnoticed back in the day of Cal's Reshanda Gray's forearm-to-the-face play ten years ago.
UCLA fans may have objected to Lexie's slap in the eye of a player in the last minute of play, although it was clearly meant for the ball. Lexie added insult to injury by grabbing the ball away from her distracted opponent before play was stopped by a foul call—this was fair, appropriate guard play on Lexie's part.
I also recall our team beating a very physical (dirty in my opinion) North Carolina at Maples in a lead up to the NCAA Tournament in 2014. After the game Assistant Coach Andrew Calder said something to the effect that, "we should have beaten up Ogwumike even more!" (And he meant it literally.) Some fans saw that game as a tune-up for the tougher tournament play, which often overlooked defensive aggressiveness (ie hard fouls).
As for Taurasi, I sat behind her team's bench at Maples a few years back. Her bench behavior — taunts, attitude, and mouth — not to mention her play, soured me on her thereafter.
By the way, after watching the game a second time, I can report that it ended with the same winner and the same score!

There is a long paywalled piece in The Athletic by Chantel Jennings dated Dec 22 that goes into this in great detail. A total nightmare for the students. I do feel very sorry for them.

To be consistent you would have to be ok with a defender slapping a Stanford player in the eye then grabbing for the ball while the Stanford player was bent over in obvious pain.
I can't stand the UCLA coach. IMO she acts like an obnoxious jerk on the court. Every foul against her team is a bad call by the referee. However, I have a hard time believing she teaches or encourages her team to play dirty to win games.
To change the subject, Stanford plans to have 4,000 students on campus for the winter quarter.

Just to be clear, IMHO Lexie did not intend to hit her appointment in the eye, she simply swatted at the ball and her opponent moved the ball, thereby taking a slight swipe to the face. The player didn’t "bend over in pain," she put her hand to her eye and stood there in pain. Had I thought that Lexie meant to do harm, I would have been critical of her. Actually, Lexie seemed to be conflicted as what to do. There was a noticeable delay before she instinctively grabbed the ball and, by that time, she was whistled for a foul. The refs did not review the play to see if a technical should be called, so no one seemed to see it as an egregious act. I simply used Lexie's example to make the point that a partisan might incorrectly perceive that it was a dirty play (it wasn’t).
In an earlier part of my original post, I alluded to an apparent undercut under the basket by Natalie Chou, but chose to call it "unintended." I did not imply intentionality on her part.
As for Cori Close, I didn’t imply anywhere that she was coaching her players to be dirty. I actually downplayed her current team's aggressive behavior. One of Close's hallmarks is tough, aggressive defense. When a player manifests that behavior on the court, the player might not get the subtleties of the strategy and venture into playground mode — that’s when it can be construed as "dirty."

In her postgame press conference, Cori Close said her primary criticism of her team in that game was that they were not physical enough: they were out-rebounded and didn't get enough 50/50 balls. She expects that will be corrected in their next game against us.

Perhaps, but on the other hand, Brink is going to get better as a rebounder and she is already very good. Her length is astounding--she reached high to get rebounds that other players of similar height would not have been able to. As her positioning improves she could become a rebounding monster. She is leading the team in rebounds per minute so far--47 rebounds in 109 minutes or 1 per 2.3 minutes. Jones has 71 in 191 or one every 2.7 minutes. Belibi is at 41 in 118 minutes or 1 per 2.9 minutes.
Brink has been so outstanding on offense that perhaps her rebounding has been a bit under the radar.
By the way, she is also leading the team with a whopping 15 blocks. If we were to do blocks-per-minute it would be off the charts. Haley Jones, with almost double the minutes, is next with 9.

OK - I had some time to rewatch the game and note the times I saw UCLA do these questionable plays. What I discovered was that No. 21 Michaela Onyenwere was the most frequent culprit and that she would extend her arm with her hand on our player and use their momentum to push our player out of the play. It wouldn't look like a push because her arm was already extended. This wasn't posting up and fighting for position. They were pushes that didn't get called because the refs were probably looking at the ball and she wasn't swiping at the ball, and she didn't bend her elbow and then extend it.
Q1 3:19 #35 Camryn Brown pushed Ashten Prechtel. Ashten is running, following Kiana on a fast break. She posts up in great position outside the restricted zone and jumps to get the rebound, getting her hand on the ball. #35 pushes Ashten in the back as she jumps and somehow ends up under the basket and the ball falls off of Ashten's hands into #35's for the rebound.
Q1 1:31 #33 Lauryn Miller pushes Fran Belibi in the back and is called for a foul. Fran is positioned well for the rebound. This is the only time UCLA is called for a foul.
Q1 0:36 #21 Michaela Onyenwere pushes Cameron Brink. Cameron positions herself perfectly in front of the basket as Haley drives from the right and she gets a slight push from #21 and ends up nearly under the basket and now #21 is standing where Brink stood and gets the rebound.
Q2 3:16 #35 pushes Fran Belibi. Fran is running the fast break with Lexie taking it to the basket. Fran jumps for the rebound but is pushed in the back and ends up under the basket.
Q3 6:49 #20 Charisma Osborne pushes Anna Wilson. Anna is moving towards the ball as it comes off the board and Fran's hand and #20 is trailing her. Anna is pushed in the back and ends up on the floor under the basket.
Q3 5:11 #21 Michaela Onyenwere pushes Lacie Hull. Lacie is crashing the board on a 3pt shot by Kiana and tries to stop at the restricted line in good position but #21 uses Lacie's momentum to push her under the basket and our of bounds.
Q4 9:00 #21 Michaela Onyenwere blocks Lexie Hull to ground. Lexie jumps to try to tip a pass from #20 to #4 and as Lexie is coming down, #21 steps under her and blocks her in the chest and chin, snapping Lexie's head back and knocking her to the ground.
Q4 4:35 #21 Onyenwere pushes Haley Jones. As Cameron Brink puts up a jump shot, Haley drifts into perfect position at the restricted zone to rebound as usual and gets her hand on the ball but #21 is trailing with her hand on Haley's hip and pushes her as her hand gets the ball and ends up under the basket and the ball falls to #21 for the rebound.

Griffens-- thanks for the rundown on these moments -- the referees let way too many fouls go by, which just encourages the players ... on another topic, did you have a chance to watch the play where Kiana got injured on slo-mo as well? I'd be curious to know what you see on replay. It was my take that she got jabbed in the hip or psoas, or had a muscle cramp. I know that Tara gave word that Kiana was ok after the game, but I sure hope that she did not twist her knee.

I rewatched the game also, twice- and didn't notice many of those. the worst i saw was Brink ahead of fast break going up for shot and Bessoir puts a hand on her hip, difficult to notice, and pushes. Brink went down hard.

It looked like Kiana's hip and Osbourne's hip or arm collided. Kiana was slightly sideways so may have been a hip pointer. Osbourne's arm got the brunt for her so her pelvis and hip may have been less impacted.
