Yeah, but is it any more relevant than any of the other 10,000 drunk driving related fatalities?

If he is still struggling with substance abuse issues, I hope he gets help.  If this was the result of reckless driving (but he wasn't loaded), I hope he's more careful in the future.  Either way, I hope he doesn't wind up killing himself or someone else.  But again, there were 10,000 drunk driving related fatalities last year, as well as 70,000 fatal overdoses and 48,000 suicides.  Most of them were just as tragic even though they weren't the result of someone who hits a golf ball really well.

More relevant, no.  More tragic, yes.  Tiger gets away with this because he’s Tiger. Which in the end is detrimental.  To Tiger.

* Woods was driving because of COVID-19 concerns.   By trying to avoid COVID-19 Woods lost his career and almost his life.
* That GV80 has some amazing safety features.   I knew the crash had some speed, but never imagined the SUV hit a tree at 75 MPH.

Woods always drove himself. He didn't like being driven.
That may be true, but the event organizers were very quick to point out that COVID-19 concerns were in the mix for why Tiger was driving.   They likely had an interest to protect Tiger, but that COVID-19 concern was expressed by reporters still in town.

As I live in SoCal I am not sure if it was national or local coverage, but that was the explanation a reporter included in their report anticipating that many would wonder why I guy worth several hundred million dollars would be driving himself to a promotional event.

You may recall the 1987 60 Minutes segment on unintended acceleration in the Audi. Ruined the Audi brand for a while -- so much so, that I purchased a gently-used, fully-loaded, top-of-the-line Audi 100 a few years later for a ridiculous discount, despite dark warnings from my American-cars-only family that I would put it through my garage.  Drove it like a dream for 130k miles.

Turns out that "pedal misapplication" was the culprit.  A few articles:

Interestingly, Audi and 60 Minutes had a history, pre-Audi story:

Tiger posted a 3 second video of himself hitting a golf ball.

I didn't realize he was making public-ish appearances.  Seems he's recovering well.
