RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 03-28-2021

I really expect them to crack the top ten in the poll, though teams rarely make that big of a jump.

It would be ironic if the beach team made the NCAAs for the first time the same year the indoor women's team did not.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - Softball Fan - 03-28-2021

Stanford deserves to be in the top ten.  I don't think they get there because the poll makes incremental changes week to week.   Numbers 10, 11, 12, etc. usually would have to have a loss this past week for Stanford to jump over them.  Hope I am wrong.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 03-29-2021

CollegeBeachVB.com does their own rankings, and has put Stanford at #9.

https://www.collegebeachvb.com/players/committeepoll

AVCA poll comes out tomorrow.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 03-30-2021

Hodel & Reilly are the AVCA Pair of the Week:

https://gostanford.com/sports/womens-beach-volleyball

Interestingly, the AVCA press release refers to #10 Stanford, even though this week's poll hasn't been released yet.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 03-30-2021

Stanford only moves up to #12 in the AVCA poll, two places below GCU whom they beat (at GCU).

https://www.avca.org/polls/beach/3-30-2021.html

Stanford travels to St. Mary's on Thursday, and then hosts #5 Cal Poly and #9 Cal on Saturday.
Beating Cal Poly would be big.
Of course, beating Cal would be sweet, too.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - Softball Fan - 03-30-2021

If Stanford can beat Cal and Cal Poly IMO they will move up to #9 or #10.

There are eight teams that make it into the NCAA tournament.  Three teams from the east and three from the west and  two at large from anywhere in the U.S.   Stanford has at outside chance to make the tournament.  They would have to win out which is possible if everyone is healthy.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 03-30-2021

Speaking of staying healthy, I noticed senior Amelia Smith missed a few meets.  She started the season on the 4s, with Maddie Dailey, but did not play in the UCD or Hawaii matches at Davis. Nor against ASU, GCU or Arizona, either. But then versus Utah, she paired with Emmy Sharp at the 5s, and was also there on Sunday (ASU and UW).

No idea why she missed some, but hope everyone is healthy.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 04-01-2021

There will be youtube streams of two courts for today's meet with St. Mary's, starting at 4pm:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3PW83HI1jM

Stanford will also live-stream Saturday's meets with Cal and Cal Poly.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - Softball Fan - 04-01-2021

Thanks for the reminder John.  I forgot the match with St. Mary's was today.

Edit: With the shadows from the trees and the camera angle it is difficult to watch. I'll check the final score later.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 04-01-2021

Yes, court 2 was particularly poor.  Hard to tell which team was which without paying close attention.

But Stanford won; they were up 3-1, and I haven't see a final score yet.

ETA:  3-2, winning at 2, 4, and 5.

At their earlier meeting, Stanford won at 1, 2, and 4.

Not sure what happened at the 3s today: Harvey & Kriz lost 21-18, 21-8.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - M T - 04-03-2021

Lots of sports happening today. (T&F, MGYM, SB, Baseball, MSOC)
#12 Stanford BVB hosts #5 Cal Poly at noon and #12 Cal at 4 today.
Both on Stanford Live Stream.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 04-03-2021

Dailey/McKinney (4s) led the whole first set, taking it 21-15
Reilley/Hodel (2s) battling on court 1, down 17-19.
ETA, lose the first set 18-21.

I'm not getting audio on any of the streams.

Also, there are some spectators.  Maybe just family?

Dailey/McKinney much closer in the second set, but they win 21-19, getting the first point.

Reilley/Hodel take the second 21-16, forcing a third set.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - M T - 04-03-2021

Summarizing the above... the teams split on courts 2 & 3.  Court 1 is in the third set, Stanford down 10-12 (as I type).

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 04-03-2021

Hodel/Reilly battle, but fall 13-15, giving CalPoly their first point.

Now the 1s, 3s, and 5s are up.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - BobK - 04-03-2021

2-2 but we have a slight lead in the last game

It’s 12 straight wins now today we win 3-2 to

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 04-03-2021

I had to go out so did not see the later matches.  But knocked off another top 10 team!
Won at 3s, 4s, and 5s.

Looks like they are running late.  No video (or tweets) for the Cal meet yet.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 04-03-2021

5pm and I think Cal vs. Cal Poly just finished.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 04-03-2021

Stanford 2s and 4s each win their first sets.

Dailey & McKinney (4s) trailed most of set 2, but pulled it out at the end, 21-19.  First point for Stanford.

And now Hodel & Reilly have lost their second set; going three.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 04-03-2021

Hodel & Reilly fall,21-15, 14-21, 12-15.

The 3s and 5s are underway.  The 1s are warming up, and will almost certainly go past 7pm.

3s take the first set easily 21-12; 5s lose 17-21.  1s underway.

Ekstrom & Villapando win their first set easily.

The 3s are ahead, the 5s are behind. Will probably come down to the 1s to decide.
Yep, tied 2-2. 1s are up 4-0 in their second set.
Now up 11-7.
Now 16-12. Convenient that Meghan's senior night is delayed.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 04-03-2021

OK, that was crazy.  E&V were up 19-15 in the second set, but Cal fought their way back, tying it at 20.  Both teams had set points before Stanford finally won it, 30-28 (at about 7:25pm).
