If they don't fall, the long rebounds could lead to fast scoring by Oklahoma State.
It seems we're trying to work inside now, but not yet successful.
I've been worried about this. It used to be that hitting threes was the difference between an easy win and a difficult win. Not it seems to be the difference between a win and a loss.

NCAA fairly lenient about bench players and fans wearing masks.

Too damn close.
Oklahoma State: 2 blocks

We win 73-62, it's win and move on this time of the year, so getting the victory and having Kiana back after the injury scare are most important but we need to step up our game.
Too many turnovers, missed shots...
Hopefully that was our "bad" game for the tournament

Not a great game when you hit 13 threes, shoot 52% from three and only win by 11. Too many careless turnovers leading to layups for Ok St. Too many missed layups by Williams and Hull. And we seemed really really tight in the fourth quarter.
But I did like Williams' anger and fight in the fourth quarter when she grabbed the ball from Mack to win a jump ball. We need more of that.

Mack is the blocks leader in the nation. Tonight she had 1 block and Cameron had 5, include at least 1 against Mack. Love it!
Tonight was all about stopping Mack. Clearly that was Tara's game plan. We accomplished that goal.

Takeaways from this game:
1) Happy to see Wilson not injured after the scare from last game; now worried that Williams is hurt--she was limping at the end.
2) Very good to see Jones getting her shot going and outstanding to see her hit a couple of treys to round out her game.
3) Williams is cooling off--was 4/11 tonight. Fortunately others stepped up. The four she made were often super-long bombs that hit nothing but net, and I was surprised to see all the misses in the stat sheet.
4) 16 turnovers was not atrocious but boy did OSU make us pay for them. Their pressure defense and jumping into passing lanes did create some problems, and they had a lot of fast break points off turnovers.
5) Tara had a great scheme for defending Mack but somehow we gave up on it in the 4th quarter.
6) I wish we had succeeded at getting the ball inside more, although the outside shooting lessened the need. Can we win a close game without shooting over 50% from three point range?

We only scored 12 points in the 4th Q. Turtling?

We won the 3-point game by 21 points. We lost the rest of the game by 10 points.
We left 6 points at the FT line. They left 5.
We were 14 of 33 (42.4%) in 2PT shots. They were 17 of 38 (44.7%).
We got 9 OR + 36 DR (21.4% OR). They got 8 OR + 33 DR (18.2% OR)
TOs were even at 16.
They won steals 10 to 7.
As I said earlier, Brink had 5 Brinks while OkSt had 2. Anna got 1 too.
We were 0 of 6 on 3pt in the 4th Q. Both teams scored 12 in that quarter..

Good question. Was our problem getting point inside self inflicted or were they just defending it real well? It may be they picked their poison to be our perimeter game, hoping we wouldn't be able to hit open 3 pt shots.

Since Mack is the shot blocking leader in the nation, Tara probably game planned around having to score in the paint. Although, Cameron did a pretty good job against Mack under the basket.

We were dominating the boards in the 1st half -- they out-rebounded us in the 2nd, including getting lots of o boards after NONE in the 1st half. Either they made a major adjustment or we backed off, or ??? Can't let this happen in the future.

Nice win by the ladies. Give OK St credit - they made shots. We took it away from their 2 best players and the others made us pay. Neferatali and Keys ended up in double figures. Even so, it was a good game plan as they just couldn't score enough to beat us.
- Cam made so many great plays, and tonight it was against the highest level of competition. 12 points on 6 shots, 9 boards, 5 blocks. Mack was totally frustrated. Also love that she just doesn't back down, and it was pretty physical at times. The refs clearly let both teams play (which is how it should be IMO). Zero fouls called in the entire 1st Q if I remember correctly.
- Great games by Anna and Haley. How about Haley hitting those 3's? If that becomes a thing, she is going to be unstoppable because of her mid-range and how she can get all the way to the hole.
- We had some awful TO's in the first half. All TO's count the same in the box score, but they are not the same on the court. A travelling call, 3 seconds, dribble off your foot - those turnovers stop play and let the other team set their defense. But other turnovers - like intercepted passes that go for layups, or dribble turnovers in transition, or steals right under the basket after a rebound - those are way different because 1) The other team gets an easy bucket and 2) They energize the other team. We have to take care of the ball. Those mistakes won't cost us the game against OK St, but they will cost us against better teams.
Go Card!!
p.s. Luv, luv, luv our draw opposite UConn and Baylor. I'd much rather play Louisville and S. Carolina.

That's not exactly fair, considering that we shot 7 more three pointers than they did and they shot 5 more two point shots than we did. So, unless their three point shooting percentage was much better, of course we are going to score more from 3; conversely, unless our two point shooting percentage was much better than theirs (it wasn't), it would be hard to score more while taking fewer shots.
That being said, we scored 39 points on 25 three pointers (1.56 points per shot) compared to 18 points on 18 three pointers for OKSt (1 point per shot). Conversely, we scored 34 points on 33 two-point shots (including free throws, since I don't think we were fouled shooting threes) for 1.03 points per shot; they scored 44 points on 38 two-point shots (1.16 points per shot).
So yeah, your point still stands; we were much more efficient from 3, while they were more efficient from within the arc.

I think that's it Goose. They were sagging a lot, bumping and helping on cutters, stopping penetration, etc. and seeing if we could hit the outside shot. I think they did a great job with their execution, but we just have too many players shooting it well right now.
