After 2 unvaccinated players tested positive, the rest of the team was tested. Four more players, all vaccinated, tested positive.
The NCAA needs to divulge further details to understand what went wrong.
It looks like society is going to have to demand vaccine passports despite the fact that it is is not considered PC by either the right or left.

To me, we have reached the point where illness, not just a positive test, should sideline people. Those who have been vaccinated should get the benefit of the doubt, and those who haven't should pay the price.

The embarrassment is a net good for society and for college and pro sports IMHO.
I suspect many pro and college teams will talk about this situation. For a sports team the decision by individuals to become anti-vaxxers could destroy a post season run. Agents right now are likely calling their late round draft picks or UDFAs to get vaccinated ASAP.
The rates of vaccination in the South remain quite low, so an event like this might get a few more people to finally decide to protect their communities, businesses, teams, oh and...their life.
Agree
Also, what if we could have just held the lead in the 9th against Vanderbilt ...
Arghhhh - can we not talk about that 9th inning for awhile? AFAIC, to paraphrase the Commodores, that ship has sailed on.... ;-)

Actually, in this case I think the ship sank.

Avent told reporters Monday that an illness was running through the team but made no mention of it possibly being COVID-19. He said associate head coach Chris Hart had been sick for five or six days and that Jarrett and pitcher Cameron Cotter weren't feeling well.

It's mind-boggling to think that any of these players are NOT vaccinated. They all should be by now. Hell, my 14 year old, who is deathly afraid of shots, got his Pfizer dual-blast many, many weeks ago. SMH.
P.S. Am aware of a local HS who had one positive test on the roster allowing team to play on basis of (a) very little chance of outdoor transmission, (b) the positive testee was asymptomatic, and © possibility of false positive. Based on the above, I assume the NC State guys are actually sick. Again . . . mind-boggling.
Three quarters of the teens in my practice are vaccinated. And I work in the poorest part of inner city Oakland. Not getting vaccinated is an active choice, not a lack of access.

There has to be more here that NCST is not disclosing. This is the second time this team has tested positive for Covid. Back in March they cancelled their series vs Duke and a game against Coastal Carolina. The play that it was the NCAA's fault and a conspiracy against the school is total look at what happened to us, rather than this is what we did to us!!

Jamesy - 06-27-2021
At this point, anyone unvaccinated is making a conscious choice. Piecing everything together, the NCAA was not doing surveillance testing on asymptomatic vaccinated people, but some (unvaccinated?) people developed symptoms and some unvaccinated people tested positive, prompting testing of the whole team. The first game was played without the unvaccinated positives and close contacts, but multiple positive tests in the vaccinated players that came back during or after the first game prompted the canceling of the second game.
ETA: Excellent summary of what happened

Absolutely the correct take. The NCAA is too easy of a punching bag, and popular sentiment allows NCST to take the easy way out.
Thanks for that link Jamesy. Eight players testing positive is quite the number, and the players knew the protocol. The players who remained unvaccinated made a conscious choice to bear additional risk. They rolled the dice and came up short this time (not to mention any decisions to not mask or to spend time in indoor, public spaces...everyone on the team should have been aware of such a risk, vaccinated or not).

If there is one positive, it will be that coaches will demand their team get vaccinated to the extent allowable. Letting players know that they can cost the team a national title by not doing their part is a strong motivator.

D1 baseball mapped out a timeline of events. Seems like they brought the Vid with them to Omaha. I am assuming that Esquer suggested the team get vaxxed or maybe Stanford University mandated that the team be vaxxed after their run in with Covid. Why Avent didn't do that, well..... Plus if he was going to play 9 the whole year, he should have made sure that 9 was vaxxed. I am also hearing, their bug was not a secret amongst the other teams in Omaha!

NC state admin and coaches need to be fired for this mess, the way they acted the victim was pretty pathetic too.
As one poster mentioned, at this point, it's not a lack of resources and it was a choice.
In other news, Miss State fans and others were hurling Racial Slurs at Vandy parents last night.
Quite the CWS. Disappointing.

Vanderbilt's AD did not point fingers at MSU fans, and MSU AD also came out against these actions.

Mississippi State didn't just win the NCAA Baseball National Championship, it won its first ever National Championship in any team sport.

Happy that MSU won it. I would have been left with the "what if we had gotten one more strike" with a Vandy win.

First hand account came out that I did not see, so you were right. MSU fans after getting boat raced in the first game, were throwing out the N word. You are right very disappointing!!
