Brink had been a lot better earlier this season. Some players get overly amped up in a big game, and try to do too much.
In the meantime back-to-back threes by Prechtel stretch the lead to 10 (now 8). Looking at all the negativity on this board, I shudder to think what the Lady Vols board looks like.

Make that back-to-back-to-back threes by Prechtel!

PRECHTEL! 11 in the 4th, exactly Stanford’s lead.

That's what sports fans are like. I belong to a sports fan WhatsApp chat and you should see all the negativity and declarations: "Player X sucks!" or "Team Y stinks!" or "what the heck was Coach Z thinking? Terrible play-calling", etc.

Prechtel is the only Stanford player to have scored in the fourth. Fortunately, with four minutes left in the quarter, she is out scoring Tennessee 11-9 in the fourth quarter.

Jones with 12 points, 14 rebounds, and 6 assists. Excellent!

OTOH 3/16 from the floor after that miss. But now with 16 rebounds.

Stanford is 12/14 from the free throw line. Tennessee is 16/29. We talk about our concern that poor free throw shooting will cost us a game, but if we pull this one out, it will be a case where free throw shooting will have bailed us out.
Of course, we have to survive the last 103 seconds of the game.

Clinging to a six point lead with under two to go. Play patient, but aggressive ball here. Use the clock, but don't be tentative or careless and come away with an empty possession or worse a live ball turnover

We just beat the undefeated 7th ranked team in the country by double digits.

The Tennessee board was brutal at end of 1st half. We are saints comparatively

And we did it without any impact by Brink.

WE WIN!! Happy we held on. Aside from the terrible terrible 3rd quarter, we played pretty well the rest of the game. This game will help us get better in the long run and was a great test before South Carolina. Hoping Brink bounces back with an impactful awesome game on Tuesday. Go Card.

30% FG percentage, and an abysmal 16/29 from the FT line. The #7 ranked team in the country only had the lead for just over two minutes on their home floor. Outrebounded 43-52 as well.

Ho hum, we just beat the seventh ranked, previously undefeated team in the country, on the road, by double digits, despite our best player this season being out for most of the game with foul trouble and our best returning player going 3/18.

We won 74-63 as the last couple minutes fortunately was not as dramatic as the previous eighteen minutes. A tremendous and critical bright spot today was our 21/24 FT shooting. It's awesome that we were able to come up clutch in a tension-filled game in a hostile environment.
Leading that production at the charity stripe was Jones, she was 12/12 from the FT line, which made up for her horrendous FG shooting (3/17). She also grabbed 19 rebounds for us, taking over those responsibilities with Brink playing very few minutes.
Speaking of Brink, the anticipated matchup between her and Key fell completely flat. They combined for five points, both played sparingly because of foul trouble and eventually both fouled out.
Prechtel started 0/5 from long range, but made three critical 3's in the fourth and an offensive rebound w/putback when we needed to hold off the Tennessee rally.
Let's also give credit to Iriafen. She filled in admirably in the post with Brink in foul trouble, Belibi unavailable and Prechtel needing rest at times, she contributed critical minutes and also was 4/4 from the field with 2 FTs and 5 rebounds. That's excellent production from a freshman on the road against a Top-10 opponent.
Wilson might not have put a noticeable stat line, but I thought she played very well and maintained great defense, including drawing a charge late in the game.
The chief takeaway from the game is for us to really put the hammer down when we have the lead - even a 16 point lead. The opponent is not going to go down lightly, especially one as talented as Tennessee and on their home court. We need to be focused all 40 minutes.

When Stanford started their comeback and the game went to break, which of the announcers expressed their disappointment with an "Ugggh" or some sigh on a hot mic?

In their first 10 games of the season, our team has defeated 3 top 10 ranked teams. That is pretty impressive.

Yes, Kiki was a very key contributor and I think this experience will pay big dividends in the future. Good learning experience for the entire team as well.
