From his bio: Found a video in which he states he was 3x Dean's List and on track to graduate Magna Cum Laude. He also speaks Japanese.

You have to imagine he'd have a good shot at admission. (By the way, Brennan Scarlett got into the MS&E coterm with a 3.17.)

Johnson was accepted to a Stanford Grad School and will announce Friday.

Moss signed his LOI today.

thanks for the news!

An athletic big man who can get into Stanford as a transfer is about the closest thing to a unicorn that exists in this world.

RE: MBB Recruiting - akiddoc - 04-14-2021

All of the rumors say that this will be Stanford.

Yes, a unicorn. And if our 2 big time freshmen are the studs they are advertised to be, this could be a much better team next year.

Someone mentioned that Silva had some (basketball) struggles in Napa. Can we get some color on this?

As for Ingram, let's avoid the temptation to think of him as Ziaire II. Ingram is likely to bring much more of an immediate impact rather than NBA projection to the party, particularly if we have a normal pre-season and don't get turned out as nomads.

Last and definitely not least, don't sleep on Jarvis Moss. I love his tape and I think he is not just a shooter, but an all-around contributor, right from day 1.

RE: MBB Recruiting - BobK - 04-15-2021

Silva stayed in school via zoom at Jesuit but commuted to Napa for basketball. He did t do this for long. What I read back then really doesn’t matter much but his ranking dropped. Jesuit started playing this week but I can’t find a box score or summary of the first two games

Silva not in box score for opener. No box score for second game yet.

Myles Johnson is announcing at noon today PT.

Here's Johnson on UCLA vs. Stanford, his two competing schools: https://247sports.com/Article/Basketball-recruiting-UCLA-Stanford-Myles-Johnson-164214072/

“I've completed zoom meetings with both of them over the past weeks,” he said. “Both schools have a respective need for a center with my defensive skills but I’m also looking for a school that will help develop me more on the offensive end of the floor.”

I guess you can read that as positive or negative depending on what you think of Haase.

Isa Silva appears in a box score in second game:
4-8 (0-2) and just 1-3 FTs for 9 pts, with 5 Reb and 4-2 A/TO in a 15 pt win

I think it currently boils down to:
-if he values the basketball experience, UCLA has the edge
-if he values the educational experience, Stanford has the slight edge

In my unscientific opinion, it will go down to how much he values each of these points. 50/50 and UCLA probably had the edge. If it's 75/25 academics, Stanford has the edge.

Nonetheless, I am guessing that he will pick Stanford since he may sense he's not NBA material (if he thought he were, he may have declared for the draft).

Early top 25:

USA Today UCLA #1
ESPN UCLA #2

If he wants a big stage over a small one he's gone.

It is hard to read that as anything but a strong indicator that he's going to UCLA.

I may be wrong, but based on the interviews I saw and the video features, it looks as if the stage Myles really wants is one about making an impact on the world, giving back, contributing to the broader black community regarding a broad range of issues (starting with academics, STEM, etc.) and thinks of the basketball/sports stage as the smaller stage than the life stage.

This is obviously what I hope, but this is also how I read him. When he thinks of opportunity, I don't think he is imagining the NBA or the Final Four, but a future TED Talk, an interview on CNBC and that type of thing. For that reason, I suspect he sees Stanford as a better springboard -- and I'm sure Condi reinforced that message.

No matter what happens, this is a kid to watch.

RE: MBB Recruiting - BobK - 04-16-2021

BC I really think DaSilva really developed on offense. I doubt I'm in the minority here.
But the Post coach is now at Denver.

Yes, Oscar DaSilva is probably the best example of a player developing offensively under Haase.  But, is he the exception that proves the rule?  If I were a recruit and wanted to telegraph a decision not to come to Stanford, I probably would cite how important the offense was to me.  I guess we'll see in about 10 minutes.

There are others--Okpala, Delaire.  The results were inconsistent this year, but Spencer Jones definitely has been working on driving instead of just being a 3-point shooter.

Anyway, Johnson's decision is already made.  We'll find it out in...2 minutes or so.
