I was born in North Beach and spent much of my life in the Sunset. What a city in the 50's to grow up in.

The poster is spot on. So is the Stanford rebuff. I had an equipment errand in Hollywood during Super Bowl week. Not much glamor anymore.

The U$C/UCLA rowing teams are going to *love* trailering their boats across the Rockies. It also brings down the number of Pac-12 rowing participants below the automatic qualifying threshold, so the resulting rowing conference will have to pick up some associate member schools (but from where, who knows).

Guess I was wrong. From a post on an SC board:

"The travel destinations for away games is a plus in my book. The Bay Area has gone to absolutely horrendous levels of disgusting and I have zero desire to go there for weekenders anymore…I’m totally up for some new destinations."

Having had the opportunity to attend football games at Ohio St., Michigan, Wisconsin and Penn State is a unique experience, somewhat similar to attending games at UW and UO when they had winning teams. Not sure how much USC and UCLA home games will improve their attendance and atmosphere when they start playing in the Big 10. Would not be surprised to see some USC and UCLA kids transfer to Big 10 schools just for the atmosphere aspects assuming they are getting paid the same that usc/ucla was paying.

Sounds like the Regents were not and will not be involved with this decision.

Not sure how the process works, but that seems surprising.

Pac-12 can become the Pac-13 with SJSU, SDSU, and Fresno

LA Times has a fairly comprehensive article.

They seem to think the additional money will make travel back east more efficient.

will the USC and UCLA Big 10 road games be more likely to be scheduled to 11am CT/noon ET or noon CT/1pm ET kickoffs to give a competitive advantage to "legacy" Big 10 teams?

yes, very expensive to travel across country for 8 games (more in basketball), but perhaps the extra tv revenue more than compensates

but also a real hardship for the students to fly cross country twice during a school week. you basically have to leave a day earlier to get from here to the midwest/east coast. minneapolis is non-stop 4 1/2 hours but penn state is 2 flights and 9 hours total (each way)

even most pro leagues have geographic divisions (presumably) to cut down on travel.

Certainly true, unless the B1G fully intends to absorb enough of the PAC-12 to make geographic divisions?? Who knows what is going on in many clandestine meetings as I type this?

I am still amazed, and perhaps a bit doubtful, that UCLA is going to just walk away without some kind of a fuss. While this move may be good money-wise for UCLA, it arguably is equally bad for Kal. It may not be a net plus for the UC system. I would think in any case there would need to be some kind of discussion on that score, which in California probably couldn't be behind closed doors.

Yes. What’s a better alternative at this point.going to need at least a few other west coast schools to balance the geography. I think we have a compelling case for the Big10. Along with Oregon or Washington. I hope we are proactive and not waiting on the sideline to see what happens.

Seems like, sans any more defections, that the remaining PAC teams could end up like the old WAC.
