Yeah, that one was nuts. Brink gets hammered going for the rebound but gets it anyway. No call. Then the ball is stolen from her, not without contact, while she's recovering her senses. Then she gets called for a ticky tack foul reaching to try to get the ball back.

cf1996 is clearly a troller attempting to get under the cardboarders's skin and change the ebb and flow of this thread. I suspect we all knew one of these types in elementary school; and maybe the five-point hook served a purpose — posters got to show how it was totally bunk — but to spend time refuting a spurious claim probably takes us on a ride into the troller's need for attention.
Better yet… great game ladies getting those O-boards… great game ladies scoring threes over those pesky defenders… great game ladies ruling the paint… great game ladies withstanding a comeback attempt… (lots to like about this game!).

At one point in the game I saw Cam chatting with Missy and both were smiling.  Smart move.  Maybe she has a future in politics.

I'm in the great game camp. Yes, some negatives, will almost always be. But so much good, like giving up a large lead, down to only five up, but not crumbling, clamping down and taking control back. That's big. And a big part of this win is Fran. A good stat line, yes, but so much more than shows up in the stats. she was an energy spark every minute she was in. She play so hard, and I think the others feed off that intensity.

I was pleased with our performance today, generally.  The team came out with energy.  It did not seem as if they had a hangover after the Utah loss.  They did not seem to take Oregon lightly.  The offense looked much better than it has in some time.

The one dark cloud was letting PaoPao heat up in the second half.  Utah has several PaoPaos and we need to do a better job of limiting sharpshooters on the perimeter.

And how about this line:  Lepolo with 5 assists, 0 turnovers, 10 points, and 2 steals.

We posted about the same thing, but I also observed the lower TOs and Lepolo's line.
Yes, our posts crossed in the ether;)  Nice to know we had the same thoughts!

RE: WBB: Stanford 76 -- Oregon 65 - qwerty49 - 03-02-2023

gostanford.com stats show Emma-Nnopu and Lepolo shooting 41% and 39%, respectively, from 3.  (I think those are updated as of today.) Only Jump, at 44% is higher.  I suspect that both Agnes and Talana are slightly hesitant to take the 3 because Cam, Haley and Hannah are such great scoring options.  But if the open 3 is there, and they can shoot at that rate, they should always do so.  And the math supports it -- 40% from 3 = 60% from 2.

At the very least, that would open up the opposing D, and that's a good thing.

Now Betts will change the equation, since she's the only person shooting 60% from the floor right now.

Just my opinion.

RE: WBB: Stanford 76 -- Oregon 65 - CompSci87 - 03-02-2023

I think it's fair to say that both Lepolo and Emma-Nnopu are very selective about when they attempt a 3-pointer, and that helps their average as compared with Jump. This is not to be negative about any of them. Just to say they aren't so close to being as big a threat as Jump from 3-point range as the percentages might suggest. Maybe they should shoot a little more, because the defense still often sags off them, but not a ton more.

Phew! Was getting a little tired of Missy whistling every chance she got. [Image: origin.jpg]

RE: WBB: Stanford 76 -- Oregon 65 - triangle2 - 03-02-2023

A few small things:

1. Did anyone notice in the 4th quarter the track meet baseline out of bounds play where four players lined up like they were going to run the 100, and they all took a couple of steps forward in sync? I don’t remember seeing that before.

2. Lepolo was consciously pushing the tempo up the court to initiate the offense before Oregon could set up on the defensive end. This was highly effective and a nice adjustment.

3. Instead of always fast breaking after a rebound, Jump stayed sometimes stayed home, blocked out and got some boards. This was one of a couple of small adjustments to cut down on the number of O boards that the other teams have been getting. 5 boards for her.

4. Even though Belibi doesn’t have a reliable outside shot, she’s very effective at the high post or the elbow because she has good rhythm with Jump, Jones, and Brink. She’s great with the hand off ball screen, and has a good sense of how to make the post entry pass. Great energy and decision making from her today.

5. It should be illegal to have Missy AND Benny reffing the same game.

Well sure but opponents always sag off them. My point is that as long as they can shoot 40% they should not hesitate if they’re open.

Actually, I forgot how to spell her name and I was too lazy to look it up.  So, I spelled it phonetically.  I meant no disrespect.

RE: WBB: Stanford 76 -- Oregon 65 - BosCard - 03-02-2023

I’m going to defend Nivar’s playing time a bit.  Yes she missed some of her scoring opportunities today but she brings a quickness, athleticism and slashing ability that we haven’t had in a very long time.  You see it most clearly in transition.  We tend to have guards who lead the break and then pass to a 3-point shooter.   If no shooter is open they just hold the ball and let the defense reset and we have to grind points in the half court.  In contrast, South Carolina’s guards in that one-on-one transition often use their athleticism and body control to get to the basket without charging and they either get an easy layup or free throws or both.  Those “easy” points outside a half court grind are crucial to winning national championships and Nivar gives us that potential element.

Yes, she is definitely our best slasher guard at the moment, although Lexie was a capable slasher and she was not that long ago!  I think Nivar needs to develop her three point shot to balance her skill set if she is going to evolve into a regular starter in the future.  She is 9/39 for the season from three point range.

Agreed. My post wasn't to contradict you, just an observation that we can't count on them to shoot the same percentage if they shoot a lot more.

You wouldn’t be the first, and you won’t be the last person (myself included) to butcher someone’s name.  I didn’t figure you for someone who would intentionally making fun of someone’s name.

I read it as a deliberate misspelling that was a compliment, not remaking fun but rather acknowledging her hot shooting
