RE: NCAA Men's Tourney - BostonCard - 04-03-2023

I think it probably says something that the men's national championship came and went and I am the first to note it.

BTW, ESPN.com tells me that UConn beat SDSU.  I didn't watch.

From a pure storyline, competition, and star power standpoint the men's championship game didn't offer as much as the women's championship did, but...

The men's GAME was more entertaining to me. The women's MATCH-UP was more compelling and ultimately a novelty with LSU's absurd shooting. Neither was particularly close, but SDSU sank 2 FTs to cut the lead to 5 points with about 5 minutes left. On the next possession Jordan Hawkins made a 3, and the Huskies closed the game 16-4 from there.

UConn's transition game and interior defense was the difference. Gotta give SDSU a lot of credit for being able to be as close as they were near the end because UConn just flat out has more better players. UConn won every game in the tournament by 13+ points. That's pretty damn impressive.

Had the game on, but didn't watch start to finish.  What I saw left me with one question - did SDSU set a record for missed shots in the paint?

I don't know, but statistically speaking, NCAA shooters are more accurate than their NBA counterparts from six feet and closer...and from 28 feet and further.

Perhaps in the men's game. I believe we set the overall record for missed paint shots in the Mississippi WBB game.

That was still a good game by the standards of Jerod Haase, who practically invented the missed layup.

Against Memphis this year, MBB was 3-12 on shots at the rim.  At ASU, they were 8-23 at the rim.  Last year, in a game against Cal where we scored all of 39 points, we were 5 for 17.

I'm sure we'll find a way to do even worse next season...

Completely forgot about the game until this morning. Glad it didn't watch, don't like UConn. . . .

Great line.  Would be funnier if not so close to true.
